Don't have hangers for a mobile - what can I use?

I'm making mobiles with my class tomorrow, and (stupidly) didn't do my plans til today. We're making mobiles and it calls for wire hangers, but I don't have any, and don't know if any store would be open tomorrow morning for me to stop and get some. Does anyone have any ideas as to what else I could use besides a hanger?

How about some string put through some kind of hard tube (maybe a hard plastic straw)? Leave enough string on each side of the tube and tie together, it will look/act just like a coat hanger for this purpose.

I did some using paper plates one year.  We hole punched holes around the plate to hang our objects from and then we hung them from the center of the plate.  It worked well and the kids did a good job.  Some where better at weight distribution of the objects hanging down from the sides then others but it worked well.  Plus coming up with enough paper plates was easier and cheaper then hangers.
