once upon a child?

Anyone ever bring clothes to Once Upon a Child? Is it worth it or should I hang tight until garage sale season comes back around? Any other suggestions for selling kids clothing... Im not interested in craigslist.

Re: once upon a child?

  • We consign at another area consignment store and I think it's been worth it.  For us, a garage sale is not going to work.  We live out in the country.  The idea of packing stuff up over the course of a year, and then packing it up and moving it to someone's house in town is not worth the effort.  Also, items sell for a higher price in consigning than garage sale.

There have been some downfalls.  If the items don't sell, we don't get them back.  You can pay for that option, but I didn't want to pay more money.  I'm pretty sure some of our items have been shoplifted or at least not sold correctly as they never show as sold on our list, but I don't see them in the store anymore either.  I think you have to weigh the loss that comes with consigning along with the benefits of not doing any of the work besides packing the clothes up and dropping them off.

  • My SIL brings stuff to sell to OUAC.  She lives in NW KS, so the only option there is garage sale, and she has to price it rock bottom to get rid of it.  So she brings the nicer stuff here.  She seems happy with the money she gets.  Although they do seem to pay for some of the items in OUAC $$, so if you're not interested in buying stuff from there, that might not be good.  If it's really nice, you might try Kidding Around, which is next to the card store in Kohl's plaza in Clive.  They seem to have nicer stuff, but a smaller selection.

  • I've been trying to just keep the super cute stuff for dd#2 and selling the rest at OUAC. Usually we get a $1-3 per item. Plus u get $1-2 OUAC dollar to use. So yes, it's better than a garage sale. However they do take some odd stuff. Last time they didn't take a really nice pair of childrens place jeans but then took a faded target dress. However I brought the jeans in a few months later and then they took them; so it may depend on what they need more of at the time. Anyway-yes it's worth it. I get about $15/ month selling crap there :)

  • I think it's worth it just because it's hassle-free. I drop off a bunch of stuff, they take what they want, and I get paid. A garage sale would be too much work for my lazy self :)
