Which baby carrier for the airport

The Belle is the one I've used the most and am most comfortable with getting on and off, but it has metal buckles so even with a nice person at TSA I have to take it off at security.  I don't have the newborn insert for either the belle or ergo, but I definitely used the belle with Gavin at this age with no problems (even outward facing)

Re: Which baby carrier for the airport

  • You can borrow my Ergo NB insert if you want.  I don't know the Belle but I had to take the babies out of the carriers at all the airport, so If you're comfortable, I'd go with that.

Teah, I'm thinking I better assume they'll make me take her out.  I might put a receiving blanket behind her head for some extra support

  • I would use either the Belle or the Ergo. I had a hard time getting the K'Tank on and off as fast as I can get the Ergo on. I wanted to love the K'Tan but I just never got as comfortable with it as the Ergo and Bjorn.

  • I use my belle every time, but it's my only carrier. I think they always make you take off even the all clothe ones (unless you can makes it look like it's the only thing you have on!) and even then-they would probably still make a fuss.
  • I wore Emmaline in the Boba when we travelled in November and wasn't asked to take it off at DIA or in PA.  Buckles are plastic, don't know if that made a difference, and I made sure to go through the "family/medical needs" line : )

Ok.  I've been through security at DIA a few times with a baby and never noticed a family line

  • I would wear whichever one you are the most comfortable with. They always made me take the baby out of the carrier, but then again, I never went through a family line either because I never knew there was one.

Yeah, it's called "Family and Medical Liquids" or something like that. It's for elderly people, families with kids, people bringing on lots of meds, etc so that you don't feel rushed going through and the security people are supposed to be specially trained to handle the stuff that comes with the territory (like not making you taste your pumped breastmilk to prove it's not a bomb). They also allowed us to take A TON of food items since I said they were snacks for the baby ; ) There's a sign for the line (at least there was the day we went through) but I'm sure someone could point you to it (it was when you enter the security area where all the lines start).  I think the TSA website talks about it too, because before we travelled I visited the site a lot and I think that's how I knew to look for it.

  • I didn't have to take E out of the carrier at either DIA or Detroit (which is REALLY strict, since that's the one where the underwear bomber was headed, I think)). They will swab your hands for explosives, but it's easy & quick. I think we were in the family line, but I can't be sure. (I also did this with the Moby, so thank God I didn't have to take it off! I like it, but it is way tricker to put on and take off!).

  • I never had to take Caleb out at DIA, and if you want to borrow my ERGO NB insert I can bring it to our GTG next Sat.

I might take you up on that.  We're oot until the 6th, so it would be a bit before I could get it back to you.  Have you tried Logan in the Ergo without the insert yet?  It seems like we might be ok without it

I have not tried it w/o it. And I wont need it while you are gone. I can use my Moby. I will bring you the insert, and you can take it home and try it out and decide if you take it with you or not.

It makes it so the baby is a little more bulky and fits more snuggly IMO. I think if I were to wear it w/o the insert for too long he would start sliding out the sides.

  • If you don't have an insert but you have an extra baby blanket, you can roll it up and use that instead.  That's what I did when my babe was little and it worked great.
