post partum sex

how afraid should I be?

I had my 6 week appt yesterday and Dr said I healed "beautifully" from my 2nd degree tear and cleared me for exercise and sex but I'm still a little nervous!

Re: post partum sex

  • It's not going to be awesome, lol, but if you go slow, use lube and just listen to your body you'll be okay.  It'll take at least a few times to be back to normal, its not a one and done "rip the band aide off" type thing, just keep going, lol.

  • Make sure you have lots and lots of lube and go sloow.  You'll be fine.
  • I a 2nd degree tear too and was on pelvic rest for much of my pg w/ O...it actually was awesome.
  • After G#1 it was pretty painful.  After G#2 it wasn't bad at all.  Both were 2nd degree tears.  Wine, lube and patience :)

  • It obviously wasn't too bad after having Gavin or else there wouldn't be a Hudson!Big Smile

Have some wine, a lot of lube and no expectations. It may not be mind blowing but it'll get back to normal.

  • My first try after, at six weeks pp and with the dr's blessing, was  excruciating. I ended up absolutely bawling, it hurt so bad.   We were both terrified to try again for almost two months after that.   It got back to normal eventually, but I'm not going to sugar coat it.  It sucked ass, big time, trying to get there.
  • i didn't have any issues and was back to normal after giving birth to both kids, but i didn't have any tearing with either kid and ds was a 9lb baby.  we waited for the 6 weeks with dd, but only waited until the pp bleeding stopped after ds so maybe 4 1/2 -5weeks pp. i say go slow and if you need lube have it on hand.
  • It wasn't fun, not going to lie.  I think it took about 3 times to get back in the saddle.  Go slow, listen to your body and try to relax, the anticipation was worse than it actually was.

  • I had 3rd degree tearing and didn't get the all clear until like 9 weeks... for me it just felt different, not painful. We were both nervous though, so it helped that we wooped it up at a wedding and Coop was at the grandparents, so we had a good amount of wine. It was kind of funny feeling for a while, but 10 months out, I can say it is actually better in some ways. (Something to look forward to, wink wink, nudge nudge.)

  • I had an episiotomy & not a tear I was cut big time with my first.  I had sex 6wks in & it wasn't horrible.  It stung a bit....and continued to sting for another 6months.  Didn't ever stop me from wanting to do it. :o)

The 3 necessities of PP nookie!

Remember too that if you're BF'ing your hormones are gonna be outta whack with elevated prolactin and decreased estrogen.  For me that meant BF'ing = dry as a bone.  Lube became my best friend but I didn't really get back to normal in the bed room until I weaned.

    GL!!

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • It was pretty horrible for me... it took 6 months of trying before it was even successful.

  • It was awful. It took us about 6 tries with lube, booze, and taking it slow and I cried every time. Even after that it wasn't great and still hurt sometimes, but I had a bad episiotomy.

  • I had a c-section, so no tearing, but breastfeeding did and continues to do a number on my body. Lube is my best friend - otherwise it still hurts. It's getting better, but I don't expect it to be 100% until I wean, which doesn't seem likely any time soon.

On the plus side, other then the dryness issue, sex itself is way, way better!

  • I cried until 20 week PP....but I also had an episiotomy that didn't heal for 13 weeks.

Don't rush it.  That's my advice.  Super slow.

  • Honestly, with DS I'd had a 2nd degree tear and everything. I never had any pain during sex (we waited 8 weeks, I think). I was pretty dry though, so use lots of lube and any other aids you might think you need. If you are nervous, have a glass of wine before you dtd. :-)

With DD and no tears at all, I was still bleeding til 9 weeks PP, but sex was WONDERFUL the first time we did it.
