PSA California Baby changed their formula

They had avoided admitting, but have finally fessed up!  They originally stated that they had only changed their labeling.  They then went on to say that ...oh...we also added preservatives. Now they are finally admitting, after many people had complained of rashes, that they actually did change their formula.  Thankfully my boys don't have sensitive skin, so I'm assuming (hoping) that they don't have a reaction to the new formula, but I would have been upset if my child had an allergic reaction and their response was that it was "raw and sensitive" due to winter weather rather than admitting their formula changed.

  • Ugh - I noticed the label change last time I was at Target and reached in the back for the old label of the lotion - I use so many of their products (bath, diaper cream, diaper area spray, calming lotion....)  I like their diaper cream because it's safe for cloth diapers and I don't have to buy it online...  I'm going to have to look into this to see if it's still okay for me to use.

  • and it the preservative they are using are irritants and chemicals, that they are trying to say are safe, but people used their stuff cause it was safer and now it is not- I won't buy from them again- and they are trying to hide the sh!t storm and deleting comments and stuff from Facebook!

  • I just bought their stuff for K because she was a preemie so I thought it would have been softer on her skin. The other day I noticed a rash ugh now to change again.

  • anyone know if Burt's Bees is a good alternative?  What's that site that shows safety ratings for skin care products?

ETA - I did a little digging and found that the ingredient they added is a supposedly a known carcinogen.  Also, someone on another (non-nest) board I post on told me that Burt's Bees isn't as good since Clorox purchased them and suggested Earth Mama Angel Baby products, which are carried by Whole Foods.

I was going to suggest Earth Mama.  You can search other products here...

  • I was just finishing off the old giant pump bottle of the old formula and just bought a new one from Target. I am pissed. Why change a good thing? I need to find something else and quick :( I was a loyal customer for 4 1/2 years and many many baths.
  • We love, love, love this stuff! My girls are both super sensitive skin plus I bathe them every single day and they don't get dry. I have it on automatic order from amazon so we neve run out. I also use the conditioner for my older daughter.

  • The reason a formula like this needs a preservative is because it will grow yeasts, molds and other bacteria without it.

They were using a safer preservative.  My understanding is that they changed it because over long periods of time products were separating, which only required shaking to fix.  I never has anything separate, but I've only been using the line for 6 1/2 months.
