indoor dog park?

Does anybody have an indoor dog park in their areas? We're thinking about opening one here where we live because nothing like that exists yet. I thought I would see if this is something any nesters have, or go to? Any feedback is appreciated!

Mostly I just want a place to take our fur babies during the winter! ;)

Re: indoor dog park?

  • We don't have one in my area (as far as I know) but I would love to take my dogs to an indoor play area. I think my main concerns would be- are all dogs up to date on vaccinations, negative fecals, and how is that checked? How is the area cleaned? How will scuffles be broken up? Is there always someone there to supervise the dogs or is it up to owners? What number of dogs are allowed? Any limits on the number of dogs per person? How much will it cost? Are treats or toys allowed?

    Ditto this to a T.

It could be loosely based off dog parks, but w/having it be indoors, you'd have to have supervision (you couldn't just open the doors @ 6am, leave the building & not come back till 9pm ya know?)...& also someone (owner or manager or whatever) making sure that the dog owners are following the rules/acting responsibly (I believe this is one of the biggest problems @ dog parks, lack of owner responsibility....but, thats another subject! Stick out tongue).

I've thought about how great of an idea this would be too in our town (dreams ya know? Lol). In my head, it'd be a cross btwn a dog park & doggie day care. For what you are talking about, I would make sure that one of the "rules" would be that the owners have to stay w/their dogs, in visual & verbal control, @ all times (just like @ the dog park...presumably...but we all have experienced owners who do not supervise their dogs @ all @ the DP). & I would also DEF ban treats & toys. Too many food/toy aggressive dogs out there, you're just asking for a lawsuit if you allow those things! (but again, we have all experienced owners who do not follow the rules....or pretend they don't know the rules, & then act surprised when something happens Lol).

Great idea though! I hope it works out for you! Keep us updated!

There's one near me. I can answer some of your questions as to how they do it. Seems really well organized. It's actually a doggie daycare/boarding/grooming/training facility that does an indoor dog park on weekends. You have to be able to show vaccination records, they keep it on file for you. I see them mopping up often after the pups, not sure what kind of cleaning solution is used. There are usually one or two employees hanging around in the play area to teach owners about dog behavior and to make sure dogs and humans follow the rules. I think they limit it to two dogs per person. They charge $10 per day and you can only use the toys they have on hand and no outside food is allowed to prevent guarding issues. We have a lot of fun going there when the poor pup has been cooped up inside all week.

  • There is multiple in phoenix, we have been to one.  That is also where Rufus took an agility for fun class.  This one has all sort of obstacle course for the dogs to run through.  There is usually an employee at the desk to kind of over see things.

  • We have one about twenty minutes from us. They also offer boarding, doggy dacycare, and they partner with a local flyball club.

To me this seems like something that couldn't really stand alone as an indoor dog park though.
