For those that are interested...Emily's birth story(long)

Hey ladies,

Thanks for the well wishes! I really appreciate them.

On Thursday morning, I had my last appt. It went normally. I was 3cm and 50%. We planned for my induction to be on 1/26 if I didn't go on my own and she swept my membranes. It never worked in the past but I figured it was worth a shot. After my appt, A and I went and got E from school and went about our day. I was having cramps but nothing to write home about.

Once Jas got home from work, we went on a walk as a family and had dinner as usual. E and I snuggled in bed for a while and then he went to sleep. I went to bed at about 10:20. Started contractions at about 10:30. They were sporatic at first and I wasn't sure if they were meaningful or not. After about 30 min, I decided to go downstairs. I watched GA and timed them. They were starting to get a bit closer together. After the show was over, I went up and took a bath to see if that would calm things down. Still nothing and they were between 7-9 mi apart. I went back and laid down and was able to fall asleep a little bit in between contractions but by 1am, they were getting more painful and about 6-7 min apart. My OB told me to call in when I got to that point since this isn't my first baby. E and A were inductions so part of me felt like this was my first time since I had no idea how fast things would go with no interventions.

I called the OB at 1am and the nurse probably wasn't too happy for my call. She didn't seem too convinced that I was really in labor since I was only showing signs of early labor. She told me to head into triage and they would monitor me for 1-2 hours and may send me home. I called my parents in Colorado Springs and pretty much argued with my mom for 5 min. She seemed to think that the baby was just going to pop out any minute and that I needed to rush with Jas to the hospital. I didn't agree with her and I told her my plans to go in on my own just in case they sent me home. They said they were coming up anyways and we didn't end the call on very good terms. I love how moms that had kids 30 years ago seem to think they know exactly what's going on in someone else's body. I knew I wasn't that far yet. I could walk and talk through the contractions but I knew they were getting closer and more intense so it was time to go in.

I went and woke Jas up and told him I was going in and I'd call him as soon as I knew what was going on. I really didn't want to wake up the kids at 1:30 or Ann or Mary if it was for nothing. I knew my parents were coming so it just seemed to make sense. I jumped in the car with my pjs on and drove down to Parker. Not a long drive when no one is on the road. I think I had 3 contractions on the way there and they really weren't that bad...just more like 5 min apart. I got to L&D and they took me to triage. I did all the normal stuff and they checked me. 4-5 cm and my water bag was bulging. My BP was also really high. Not too surprising with my history but I am glad I made it to the end before it went crazy. I called Jas and my MIL and Jas started getting my stuff together that I had packed and picked up the house. Once my dad got to the house, Jas left for the hospital and my MIL came over from Lakewood.

I was moved to L&D and was pretty much in my room by myself till about 3:15 when Jas and my mom got there. I got the epi at 3:30 and was at 7cm at 4am. They broke my water at 4:50am and I was 9cm and there was meconium. Made me a little nervous. A little after 5am, the nurse had me do a practice push. She immediately had the dr come in. I started actively pushing at 5:31 and Emily Lynn was born at 5:43. I think I had 3-4 contractions total while pushing. It went very well and I had no tearing or issues! I believe she was born face up and she cried immediately so they ended up putting her on my chest immediately, which I really wanted. She was cleaned off and and taken over to be assessed quickly. I got her back soon after and she pretty much latched on before we even had her situated under my gown. She is an excellent nurser so I feel very blessed.

Emily Lynn born 1/20/12 @5:43 am 7lbs 11 oz and 20inches. 7 hours of labor total.

We were able to come home after one day and it was really nice to come home early.
