Do we have one around here (like on our board)? My niece was recently diagnosed with childhood apraxia and I was looking for more understanding on it
Re: Speech therapist?
Thank you ladies. She has already had her hearing tested. She is the same age a DD (3.5) and probably only says about 10 simple words.
I guess my main question is, is this something that will get better over time or will it be a life-long struggle? The mom doesnt really understand and from what I am gathering medicaide will only pay for so many speech therapy sessions and there is only 2 in the tampa area that she can go to.
Hey. I am a pediatric speech langauge pathologist. Childhood apraxia is not a langauge disorder. Basically, she knows what she wants to say but it comes out differently. She will need to a doctor's order for a speech evaluation and treatment. Based on her progress, she should be able to continue until she has met her goals. Progress will not be immediate, but with time her speech should improve.
Feel free to ask me any questions.
