...sorry, I don't post here so I apologize if this is a "hot topic".
Our dog is a little over 10 years old. We've had him since adopted at 4 months. He's a black lab/basset hound mix and AWESOME. But recently he's had new traits.
His bladder isn't what it used to be. He has to pee all.the.time. I assume this has to be with age? It's almost like having a puppy again when he cries at 4 am so that I can let him out quick. Also, he gets a little frisky around the babe (sometimes getting in a stance like he is thinking about humping?).
So I guess the big question is... what changes did you notice when your dog got old/older?
Ancillary question:
What's up with the pseudo-humping? He's fixed and our son LOVES him but it's a little disturbing when the dog starts to act like he might mount him What's up with that?
Re: If you have an older dog... (bladder & humping)
As for the humping, my little guy (11 years old), will air-hump if he gets overly excited or stressed. It's seems to be like a release value not to be tacky about it.
How old is your son? Is he more mobile than he used to be or more vocal? Some change that should be stressing out your dog.
A vet visit is definitely in order regarding the peeing. It could be something as simple as a UTI or it could be his kidneys or other more serious issues (hopefully not though).
I have no idea about the other issue but good luck!

straymo - Our son is 20 months and crazy mobile/vocal but it's not really a new thing. The dog doesn't seemed "stressed" by our son, but I can see where a lot of running around and shrieking might make him anxious? Good tip. Thank you.
Dex - thanks. I'll give the vet a call and make an appt.
It's so sad to think about our pup as a little old man now...

OMG I know. Even though Dexter was a young adult when we got him, it's so sad that he's now dealing with the "senior" issues - arthritis, kidneys, etc.
Hopefully it's nothing serious though - since it seems to have come on suddenly, it does sound more like a UTI than something bigger.

It's so hard to watch them get older. Vegas (our dog) sometimes has trouble getting up in to our bed now too. Not all the time, but once in awhile he struggles to hop up. I usually just pick him up and put him in with us, but Iwe've even talked about little doggy steps
