what age did you stop using the highchair?

I think we've reached the end of the highchair at home. D is almost 21 months and for the last week he has sat at his little table and eaten his meals there. If we put him in the high chair, he puts his feet on the table and kicks the chair away, throws his food around, and just cries. We tried the little table and it seems to be working, but wonder if there's another option.

  • She was a little over 2 years old.  It was a pain to clean up the high chair and she could fit in a chair at the kitchen table much better.

  • Billy used it until he was 3 and then went into a booster for a year and then nothing.  Sammie is still in the highchair.  I would get him in a booster so he can sit at the table with you.  Sharing mealtime is important.

We moved to the same one when S turned 2. We just recently took the back/straps off. Now she just uses it as a booster. Love this thing!

He's 3 on wednesday and he doesn't know there is another option!

But, we have a Fisher Price booster with a tray I keep in my car to use if there is no high chair.

  • We just stopped the highchair with Maeve around Christmas. One day she just jumped into Mo's booster. Mo said, I"m okay in the seat, and the rest is history. Mo has DESTROYED her booster so I have to get her a new one. (I'm liking that Graco one posted!)
  • around 18 months she went to a booster at the table so she could eat with us. If I had it to do again, I never would get a high chair. Ours also fell on her, once that happened I got rid of it.

  • We did a booster on a regular kitchen chair around that age (because we moved and I was sick of the high chair - haha).

That lasted almost until she was 3 and she started getting mad about being buckled in.

  • Um...about 3 weeks ago?  haha.  They were fine in there & never complained so I just kept them in there.  I didn't start using them until after they turned a year and I'm not sure why I didn't start earlier.

  • Bella's in hers right now having breakfast :)  She has some meals in it, some in a regular chair.
  • I'm impressed with these responses!  Lilah never liked the high chair.  I think she was out of it and in the fisher price booster way before she was 2.  And not in anything way before 3 probably shortly after 2.  She is the worst with sitting in a booster etc but she sits fine in a regular chair.

  • We just stopped using it last week and she sits int he booster at the table.  I was holding it off until we finished the kitchen (we just started it) since if someone sits in the 4th seat at the table, your back is facing the TV so guess who would sit there...me.  but she threw a fit one day in the high chair, wouldn't sit in it so now she sits in my old seat and i get to listen to the TV.  lol

The new kitchen will have an island table where all 4 seats will be sideways to the TV so we will all be able to see.

  • Molly was around 2.5 and only because we needed it for Quinn.  She loved that thing, and wasn't too happy about giving it up, but she got over it quickly.  She went to a booster, and just the other day we took off the booster.  Quinn is still in the high chair.  He seems to like it, too.  In fact sometimes he climbs in it when it is not meal time so he can watch tv.  I'll probably keep him in there a few more months before moving him to the booster that Molly just gave up.

  • Kieran was around 2, but Mikey loves his high chair so we will keep using it, plus he is a PITA with grabbing everything and anything in his reach, so for now it is better that he likes it!

  • right around 2yo for the twins. We were happy to get rid of them and make some space.  Gray still sits in a booster seat for height - but Gibby sits on a regular chair now.

I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.

  • she was about 2.5, she tried to climb out and that was it for us.
  • RJ happily sat in it until he was 2.5 and then we needed it for Andrew who still sits in it.  He turns 2 next month.  I def see him resisting it more and more though so I doubt he'll last as long as RJ did in there.
