Thomas Mateo has arrived!

Morning! Day two of this wild ride.

Thomas Mateo was born on 21 Jan at 5:46am. He has a full head of black hair, and is just gorgeous.

My labor didn't go exactly as I had planned (whose does?), but it was overall a good experience. Contractions started at 11:30pm on Thursday the 19th. They went from zero to being every two minutes apart and lasting for one minute each, though the pain was manageable. At around 3am, I called the hospital and let them know what was happening and they asked me to come in and get checked. I was only two centimeters, so they sent me home. The contractions continued at the same pace, but kept getting stronger. By 3pm I was exhausted and hoping things had progressed further (at this point I had been up since 8am the previous day), but when I went back to the hospital, I was only 3cm! I was completely disheartened, and that was when the waterworks started. I was so upset to be sent home again.

I went home to continue laboring. H was fantastic about making sure I was comforted and had everything I needed. I mainly labored on all fours, leaning up against him or in the tub. Finally, at 7pm, I had another breakdown. I felt like the pain was getting to be too much and I was desperate to sleep. Back we went, this time determined to not be sent home. By this point, my grand plan to go all natural and possibly have a water birth were thrown out the window. I went in begging for an epidural, and fortunately, I was 7cm and 21 hours after starting labor, I finally got some relief.

By 4am Saturday morning, I was ready to push. I pushed for an hour and a half when the baby's heartbeat starting going up and the doctor said I had 10 minutes to get him out before he would use forceps. That's what it took! Thomas Mateo was born screaming at 5:46am. The 30 hours of labor was worth it. He's a champ and we're so in love.
