I am as excited as

that grover gif. Anyone have it?

They decided finally to pull their heads out of their asses to realize that moving our entire office out to move a school in was not good for the budget so they are not moving us. Best Monday morning news ever!

Anyone else have a good morning so far?

  • NO. NO I'M NOT.

My landlord emailed us this weekend and said she might try and sell our apartment again. But she did offer to sell it to us first "for a really good deal" before she *maybe* puts it on the market. She hasn't decided. I want to throw up. I love my apartment. LOVE. And I hate moving. HATE.

  • NOOOOO

You're apartment is so awesome dude. I hurt for you.

You haven't been there long either have you?

  • Yay for Winged, boo for bethie.

  • We moved in last March 26. We have a 13 month lease, so we'd need to be out by April 26. This blows. I'm legit depressed about it. I totally had a bad feeling that something like this would happen. Tim is sending her an email offering to sign a long-term lease if she doesn't put it on the market. I think she just doesn't want to go through the hassle of renting it out again if we leave.

I'd totally buy it too, but we have like no down payment. And it was on the market for $340K before we moved in, so I'm not sure what our "really good deal" would be.

  • Well, no harm in seeing what the good deal would be and if you qualify for no down payment loans. I hope things work out.

Oh, and Bethie I finished A Million Sun. OMG

Also, TT related, I spent this weekend cleaning up my bitizens. Out of 92 current bitizens, only 4 are not in dream jobs.

  • Noooooo! I have a work book to read and write a discussion guide for first!

(sorry, I'm an ass. Good news about your office!)

  • no worries. I understand your grief. How long with this work project take. I read the book in like 2 days, so at least once you can read it, it will be fast.
  • Bethie, can you ask for a rent to own option? Where you guys set the sale price in x amount of years and she takes a portion of your rent for a down payment?

For less then ten cents a day, you can feed a hungry child.
  • Winged--it looks pretty boring, honestly. And I have to write a 3 page discussion guide with questions and stuff. I have a month, but I'd like to get it done ASAP.

Angie--I thought about that, but I honestly don't know how long we're going to be in the area. In my dreams we get to move home one day, but who knows? I'll talk to Tim about that too.

  • Bethie - I have such rage for your.  That just blows.  I'm really irritated with my coworkers.  The one I don't like is using a lot of hick talk "I need to get me some of that coffee", etc.   I think she thinks it's cute.  One I do like is acting mildly "cold" and it's bugging.  Not enough that i would ask her what the problem is, just enough to make me want to.  The other one I like brought in "fruit pizza" and keeps whining at me to try it and saying its "mostly healthy".  FOFF you.  That *** is 95% sugar cookie and 5% fruit!  You know I don't eat *** like that.  Stop asking me to try it you size four twit!

  • O bethie, that's the suck!  Hopefully she'll agree to the long term lease option.  I would turn cartwheels if my tenant did that for me.

Winged, that's great news about not having to move.  I'm shocked that they actually did something somewhat smart!  And as for TT, I keep thinking I'm going to quit it, but I'm still completely obsessed.  I organized all of my floors this weekend, and I've started buying costumes for each floors bitizens, so they're easier to find.   I'm having way too much fun putting them into the costumes that I think they'll hate the most.  I dressed my vegan food employees up as hunters :)

  • This little guy was guarding the door when I got to work today.

    image

I managed to coax him away long enough to get inside, but then somebody else accidentally let him in so we had to lure him back out with pretzels. He's super friendly and sweet, and I want to take him home with me. He has a collar that looks like it goes to an electric fence, but there's no name or contact info on it.

    edit: he has a collar...not a color

  • Good for Winged, boo for Bethie.

I'm not looking forward to this week.  Fran is in Florida, Ian starts his transition into a new room at daycare (always rough for me), and my mother is having surgery today.

  • omigaaaaaaaah give me puppy!!!!!!!!

  • Oh Buddha!!  So cute.  If you have a petsmart/petco/vets office near you, and you can get him to come with you, you should get him scanned for a microchip.

  • That is great news Winged!

Sorry about the apartment Bethie but hopefuly a long term lease will work.

    I want that dog.

Kay I hope everything goes well today with your mom.

This is hilarious. I just color code mine other than the football player whose dream job is in the Optometrist. She came as a football player and she will remain.

    I booted my ghost.

  • Poor dog. Spanky has an invisible fence too. If he gets out, he roams, and then knocks on people's doors. Then they call me because I have my number on his tags.

I won't allow old people to live in my TT. I have a bias against them. We're a young, vibrant community

    image
  • Yay! We found his owner. We walked the dog around the neighborhood behind the building and found a lady hanging signs. She was so happy. His name is Spike.

TT makes me angry because I want to do challenges, but there isn't a single one available for which I have both businesses. It mocks me.

    image
  • I just did my first two challenges. it took a while to have the businesses for them.

    Good for you Winged!

I am NOT having a good morning. No, no. NO. It is misting out, so there is slush and mud all over. My pants dragged through it all despite my best efforts to try to roll them up. I couldn't find my cell phone before I left to take E to school. I had to stop at my store in town to pick up finished lamp repair to bring to my store. B had to secure like 5 lamps as best he could which meant I had to drive slow. I then went home with like 8 minutes to find my phone. It was nowhere. I finally thought to check my bathrobe pocket where it was but has never been in it's existence. Then, I made it to work on the dot and some lady is waiting for me whom I told I'd CALL her on Monday to tell her if I had her lamps. So, I had to hurry, trudging through the snow and mud here to get her shiit out of my car.

    Not a good start.

  • Yay for Winged. Boo for Bethie. And boo for that poor lost dog. I'm having an okay morning despite crappy weather, a miserable commute and being super tired after going to be too late last night.

You judge the invisible fence as a whole? That's all I can gather at this point.

Yes, the IF system is less than perfect. However, several times I have had Spanky at friends' home and he has dug out under their privacy fences and chain link fences. So, the only other option would be to tether his little butt to a chain, which I refuse to do. But considering I picked up the dogs (2, my sister took in the other one) during an ice storm, searched for owners for over 2 weeks, and took them in because the shelters were filled to capacity, I'm doing the best I can with him.

    image
  • How often does he get out Mo?  I thought the idea with an invisible fence is that the shock scares them away from trying to get out.  I guess the concern if he's gotten out multiple times is that it's not enough deterrent.
    image
  • Eh, depends. Maybe every other month? But then we go 4 or 5 months without issue sometimes too. I can't say for sure. The battery is supposed to last 6 months. And the indicator light is supposed to go from green to yellow to let you know the battery is fading. I have never once seen mine go yellow, let alone red, which signals the battery is nearly dead. So usually what happened at first was that the shock wasn't strong enough, and he'd go out. So now I change the battery at 4 months, just to be sure.

Then there was the issue where he put on too much weight, and the prongs weren't touching his neck. I changed the battery out a ton, and kept retesting it. He gained 14 pounds in a year, so then it would shock, but he wouldn't feel it, especially if his nose was to the ground and the collar would be pushed away from his skin. We switched out the prongs. It definately is a learning curve.

But ya know, since it's not a perfect situation, I guess I could have always dumped him somewhere to make it someone else's problem.

  • Winged, I can't believe they're doing something not stupid! It's a miracle!

Bethie, you can't move out before I come visit you at some unspecified date in the future. Tell your landlord, I'm sure she'll understand.

Will decided that he wanted to wake Evie up this morning. At 5. They have spent a good deal of time walking around crying. Today is going to be awesome!

  • We had our home inspection, and it went really well.  We've only got to deal with getting the down payment where we can get to it and home owner's insurance between now and February 24th.  I'm terrified and excited by the prospect of being a homo-wner soon.

Invisible fences are not good solutions for keeping dogs where you want them to stay. The dog learns they will get shocked if they cross the boundary, but that only keeps them inside the boundary as long as there isn't something worth getting shocked for on the other side.  Obviously your dog regularly sees things on the other side that are worth the shock.  Additionally, while they might keep your dog in, they don't keep anything else out (other dogs, predatory animals, predatory people).

Real fences are better than invisible fences, but still not great.  If you have a dog that digs, there are several steps you can take to prevent that.  You can bury chicken wire around the perimeter of your fence, or you can mix manure into the soil around the perimeter of your fence.  Both of those are fairly effective at stopping digging dogs.

You did however leave out one very obvious solution.  Don't leave your dog outside unattended. You know he's a digger, and you know he's a runner, so if you truly care about him, keep him inside when you can't watch him.  It's not rocket science.

It's great that you rescued him, but you still took on a responsibility to keep him safe when you decided to make him your dog. He's not safe when he's just wandering freely around your neighborhood.  It's great that the people that have found him have always been nice/good enough to call you and return him, but that won't always be the case.  Eventually he'll get hit by a car, or lose his collar, or get into a dog fight, or get found by someone who thinks he's cute and doesn't want to return him, or get found by someone who thinks he would make a good bait dog.
