because damn does the man cold start young!
this kid is straight up miserable. up every 2-3 hours at night screaming, coughing, losing his breath. I had a cold last week, finally feeling better, and he is getting the worst of it now. We are calling the pedi for an appt, but I know what they are going to tell me already.
we vicks'ed his chest and back, saline sprayed and aspirated his nose, inclined the crib, and broke out the cow humidifier.
anything else? can i put vicks in the cool mist crane humidifier? i remember my parents doing that for me when i was little.
he is eating like a champ and with the exception of not being able to sleep, still wants to play despite his crankiness.
thanks!
Re: ok moms, give me your best tips for dealing with a baby cold
I prop their mattresses up on one end with some books. It helps them sleep a little better than lying flat.
I know this sounds crazy, but put some Vicks on the bottoms of his feet and put socks on. It helps everything run out a little faster. Crazy I know but it works.
i didnt even know i could give him benedryl! good idea, thank you!
thanks ladies.
Check with your ped. The bottle of every med I looked at says 6 years and up.
I drag the exersaucer into the bathroom when I shower so he can get the steam.
This was going to be my suggestion, too.
DS had nasal congestion for 3 weeks that he just got over. He now knows how to blow his nose from me being constantly on his with a tissue! hahah
of course check with your ped, which i did, and got the correct dosing.
i forgot to mention the jnj vapor bath, we did that too!
he is going to the ped today bc his chest is literally rattling, he sounds and feels like he is purring. ugh! vibes its just a cold please!
i will ask about benedryl when i am there.
bosha, i keep trying to get him to blow his nose but you would think instead of trying to help him i was trying to shove hot pokers in his nostrils. the kid screams bloody murder and thrashes like he is being attacked by sharks!
I took A to pedi for same thing and swore he had broncolitis...nope, all was clear. Just had to ride it out. So frustrating, they are soo little and soo helpless. Hope he feels better soon!
