Heartbeat echos

Similar post on August board

A couple nights ago when I heard baby's heartbeat I found t on the right side of my ute. After I found t I stopped looking until last night. I started looking on the left side and found it right away... So I went back to the right side and found the other  one again. I'm wondering if the two heartbeats could be from the same baby?

I used the Doppler my whole pregnancy with Wyatt and never once had this happen and I'm having a 'what if' moment. Both heartbeats were equally easy to hear, and I'm positive that neither were placenta... Unless I've just forgotten what it sounds like.

Has anyone ever heard an echo that they thought was a second heartbeat? Lance heard both top so I know I'm not crazy lol

Re: Heartbeat echos

  • I saw this on the August board and was going to respond, but this is "home" so I'll do it here instead ;) I know nothing about heartbeat echos, but OMG how exciting!! I ordered my doppler on Saturday and it's supposed to be here today and I can't wait to try it! I know there's only one in my ute though, u/s confirmed it. I can't wait to hear what other insight you get, and for your appt in a couple weeks! Keep us posted!

  • Oh wow...now I'm dying to know if there are two in there!  When do you have an ultrasound?  Maybe that's why you are showing so much already too?!?!

As for the placenta, it does sound a little bit like a heart beat, but more of a "woosh" type sound if that makes sense.  Almost a bit like the ocean or something is how I would describe it.  I remember because at one of my early appointments, the Dr couldn't find the heartbeat, just the placenta.

  • My first appointment is 2 weeks from today. And I probably won't have an ultrasound until April unless they have a reason to do one. In not sure if they would do one for multiple heartbeats or not. I am really curious now lol... The idea of twins scares me shitless though haha

  • Make sure you are not on one of your own arteries.  If you hold the doppler over an artery, then you may be picking up  your own heartbeat.  Then again, maybe it's two?

this would be my guess too.
  • I was thinking this, but then again, you know that your heartbeat sounds different too...hmmmm

  • This happened to me once but there was just one baby in there! How exciting!

  • I used to hear Andy's heartbeat in more than one place, but that totally doesn't rule out the possibility of twins. How cool.

  • I've heard heartbeats all over the place...it's crazy--and honestly, if I didn't know better (ie: if I hadn't seen the ultrasounds!) I would think there were like 5 in there! My doctor was listening to the hbs the other day and he had the doppler positioned over what I would call the heartbeat, but he called it an echo. Still measurable and everything, but not the actual heart, if that makes sense. I can't wait to see what you have!

  • now that I'm thinking about it...and I totally mean this in a baby way, not in a "seriously, you just asked a pregnant lady about twins...you're an idiot way"

You ARE kind of big pretty early on...right?

  • Update: I pulled out my Doppler earlier and was able to hear the heartbeat(s) again in relatively the same places as before... But since lance has been home I've tried 3 times and cant find anything besides my own heartbeat. So I'm thinking heartbeat 2 is probably an echo if they're both hard to find at the same time.
