weight watchers gals, please come in

So the wedding shape up is in full effect. I'd like to lose about 20lbs (5 pounds per month until May 4) and tone up a bit.  I joined WW over the weekend and I've been assigned 26 points.  That seems like a large amount of points to me, especially when I mostly eat fruits and veggies anyway (which mostly have no points).  How am I supposed to get to 26 points without eating things that I normally wouldn't touch (ie: foods with a lot of fat or carbs)?

I know that WW is a way of life, which I'm all for, but I'm afraid that eating all 26 points initally will cause me to gain.

Any words of wisdom are appreciated!

Re: weight watchers gals, please come in

  • I was surprised once I started tracking how much foods I didn't think were high in points were higher than I thought.  Especially stuff containing carbs (rice, flour, pasta, grains, breads).

You don't really have to eat all your points...I never did.  I usually saved my leftover points for wine. :)  I actually thought the minimum points per day was 27.

ETA- Sunflower is right- you are supposed to eat all your points but I usually get close on the points (maybe off by 3-6), but if I'm not hungry and I don't feel like eating anything else I  don't worry about it.

  • With the change in points to points plus, a lot of foods have increased in points. I never have any issue hitting 26 points (though actually I get more than that each day).

But yes, you are supposed to eat all your points to insure your body is getting enough calories.

  • Eat all your points!  I've been on and off WW for years and know that most people get best results when they eat all of the points!  Your body will fight you if it's not getting enough and you won't lose as consistently.  When I was on WW before this pregnancy, I was still nursing and got 46 points per day!  It was crazy but I ate them all and lost 1-2 pounds a week despite not being a "naturally loser" when nursing (I was the same weight at my 6 week pp visit as I was 6 months after DD's birth, nursing DOES NOT help me lose weight).

Be sure you're measuring your grains to get the right points there because they are a lot!  Same with the fats (measure your olive oil, avocado, and nuts until you're sure you have portion sizes memorized).  Speaking of fats, be sure to eat them!!  Follow the good health guidelines (8 glasses of water, 2 fats, 8 fruits and veg, or whatever it is now...) and you'll get your points in every day.

The great thing about WW is that it works and you can be completely successful, just don't try to rewrite the program.  Do what you're supposed to do without trying to outsmart it and you'll do great!  : )
