NYC Eateries

Going to NYC in May and looking for restaurant suggestions... off the beaten path type of things, and things unique to NYC.

TIA!

Re: NYC Eateries

  • I love Cola's (a tiny Italian place in Chelsea, not sure of the address) and The Prime Burger in the east 50s (51st maybe?). That place was featured on Oprah on an episode with Sarah Jessica Parker. A total NYC diner, good food. It's near St. Patrick's Cathedral. Fairly inexpensive, too, in comparison to a lot of places to eat in Manhattan.

  • Carnegie and Stage Deli- not off beaten path, but really like them both. My BIL lives there and just tried Perilla in Greenwich Village. The owner/chef is the winner of the First Top Chef.
Tied the knot: 6.19.04 Mommy to 3 awesome kids: Maren 3/06, Tommy 12/07 amd Kolbe 8/09
  • I thought of another one. On the Upper West Side, a breakfast/brunch place called Good Enough to Eat. I believe in the west 80s. It was really good. I discovered it through a recommendation on the Food Network. Not sure if it's still there since this was back in '06.

I would also recommend Perilla!  It's a little pricey but you feel like you get the real NYC foodie experience there without it being presumptuous or intimidating.  The prices are on their website so you can get an idea of what you'd be spending.

Also, Carmine's in Times Square is fun.  It's a true Italian restaurant, everything is served family style so the portions are ginormous.  carminesnyc.com

If you are looking for a nice place to have a glass of wine and maybe a light meal, Morrell Wine Bar by Rockefeller Center is a good place to go.  morrellwinebar.com

    Have fun!!!!

  • There is a little place called Trattoria Trecolori in the Theater District. Best fresh pasta I've ever had, truly amazing. Great service, reasonable prices. LOVE
  • We enjoyed the Mermaid Inn for Seafood.  It was a little pricey, but hey you are New York!!  Also, the Brooklyn Brewery was a pretty fun little sidetrip.
