Beach trips in May - any recs?
Hi all -
MH and I want to take a trip in early May to somewhere warm and with a beach/pools, but not too far and that won't break the bank. I've looked into Bermuda, and although flights are reasonable, hotels are SO expensive! I've also looked into Gulf Shore and nearby towns.
Any recommendations? Thanks!
Re: Beach trips in May - any recs?
We usually take vacation in May, it's our favorite time because of low crowds and very reasonable prices.
With that said, I've been to Bermuda a few times in May and there is no guarantee it will be warm enough. Besides being extremely expensive (food/attractions/accommodations), the temperatures typically fall into the low/mid 70s. For me that just isn't swimming weather, especially when you factor in ocean breeze. Brrrr!
Have you considered Myrtle Beach or Hilton Head? I still won't swim in the ocean because I think it's waaay too cold but the temps are higher and there's always heated pools. Plus the vacation packages are GREAT! Also, USVI, Bahamas, even Florida (like Clearwater or Amelia Island). Florida is especially good during the first two weeks of May, before school lets out. It is pure heaven and hotel packages are very reasonable.
um...bermuda, hilton head and myrtle beach are pertty much all on the same latitude, so if its too cold at one, its not going to be too much better at any of the others...
op, what about flying into miami and drive down to the keys?
If you drive from Miami down to say Key West it could be a 3 - 4 hour drive. Love the idea and I've done it, but it could suck since its basically a 2 lane road.
You could look at Ft. Myers/Sanibel Island area if you are looking for relaxing beach area.
PM me if you have any questions.
oh snap...i didn't realize it was that long of a ride! sorry!
sanibel is really cool! i went there for softball spring training a few times..
