You know how I was asking about beach options for my birthday week? We'll officially be spending it in the Outer Banks, in a giant house (with an elevator!) right on the beach, with a whole bunch of our college friends!

I'M SO EXCITED. CAN IT BE JUNE NOW?

That's AWESOME! We've been talking about doing something similar with our college friends for a few years now, but we've never pulled the trigger on it because someone's always getting married, having a baby, already planned a big trip, etc... I've heard such awesome things about OBX, but have never been. We keep debating whether it's better to drive all the way down there, or hit up a closer beach (NJ, DE, MD, etc...), but looking at some of the houses, I've been leaning towards OBX being worth it. What a great way to celebrate your birthday!!!

You really should! We've been down there as a group before - it's a great group spot. Super low key. We usually just rent a volleyball net and spend the week laying on the beach and playing volleyball.

And, if you're able to go slightly off season - end of May/beginning of June/Sept - things get quite a bit cheaper.

Unfortunately, DH and most of our friends are teachers so the off season is kind of hard. But, I have noticed that rates seem to be cheaper for the last week or two of August, which we could do. I'm guessing that's because the southern schools tend to go back earlier.

That, and it's hurricane season. They've had to evacuate during that time the last two years.

We're going the week we are because of teachers too.

I feel like looking at the prices is sticker shock, but when you divide it up it's not really as bad as it seems. We have a 5 bedroom house and each bedroom has its own bathroom - so it's sort of like mini hotel rooms. And it's about what we'd pay for a hotel room mid-summer too.

Great point about hurricane season. Which week in June are you going? DH is usually in school til around the 25th. Would you mind sharing a link to the house ( if you have one).
