EF dishwasher detergent?

Is there a brand that you could recommend that works well? Or a homemade recipe that actually works? TIA

We're using the Finnish tablets for now and they don't work all that great...and yet work better then most regular stuff I've tried. I'd really like to switch to EF stuff though.

Re: EF dishwasher detergent?

  • I use Seventh Generation - their liquid automatic dishwasher detergent in the lemon scent, along with their rinse aid, and it works well enough for us.  I switched to the lemon scent from the "Free and Clear" because on the RARE occasion I allow fish to be cooked in the house, I am convinced any pans or plates that had fish on them make the entire dishwasher load smell.

  • We have had good luck with Method "smarty dish" and use vinegar in the rinse compartment.

  • I think it really depends on your water.  We've been using Seventh Generation and I really dislike it.  It sticks in our detergent compartment, only rinses off some of the dishes, etc.  Even with using vinegar in the rinse compartment.

Ecover tablets are also my favorite.  Whole Foods has them, but lately I have been buying 6'ish boxes at a time in bulk on Amazon.

  • We don't use a dishwasher anymore, but thought i'd suggest the Earth Friendly brand, as it's the main brand offered in bulk (refill your own containers) by our local co-op, which says something.  Also if you can get whatever brand/formula you choose in bulk it significantly reduces the packaging waste (and the cost for you!).

  • We just put in a dishwasher (hooray! no more hand washing every piece of silverware!) and have been using this recipe quite successfully (with baking soda, not washing soda): http://myhealthygreenfamily.com/blog/wordpress/homemade-borax-free-dishwasher-detergent-with-secret-ingredient/
