My kid is so damn stubborn!

He's been sitting at the table for almost an hour with the same 4 small pieces of bagel in front of him. Every 10 minutes or so he takes another bite. I am so done with him not eating anything especially since he asked for it.

  • Ugh!  Abby used to do that.  Now she sits and talks and talks and talks and babbles and doesn't eat.  We now play the quiet game.  She can't talk till she finishes eating.

  • Walk away and let him eat by himself or end the meal and when he's hungry try again.  Food is not a battle you can win.

  • denise this is not something i have experience with, but my aunt struggled with my cousin and feeding...both of my parents (RN's) told her and her ped agreed...put the food in front of him and set a timer for 30 minutes, when the timer goes off, you take the food away and go on your merry way, when he tells you he's hungry, same routine...but you can't fight with him...the more you fight, the more he's going to fight you...

That's exactly what my mom used to do with my brother and I.  We would fight her on eating she gave us a 30 minute time limit to eat.  If we ate, we ate ,if not we went hungry.  We survived.

  • Stephanie does this now and then with dinner.  Ed sets a timer on the microwave giving her such and such a time to eat.  If she doesn't eat then she doesn't get any other food until the next morning.  The next morning she will usually gobble up everything on her breakfast plate.

  • Our new rule is, he has a 1/2 hour to finish. If he's not done Dinner is over, he gets nothing else and no dessert. He won't STFU - he's constantly talking and we are constantly reminding him to eat.

  • he will not let himself starve...
  • He asked for it, he's quiet, and he's eating. Let him sit. Read a book, wash some dishes, throw in a load of laundry, go stare out a window - stop focusing on that and leave him be, you can't force him to eat faster r more.
