When did your kid stop crying at daycare/school?

We put DS in a nursery school two mornings a week and, as we expected, it's taking some time for him to adjust. He hasn't really been away from me, unless I leave him with family. He tends to be shy around other kids until he feels comfortable. So it just seems like he's getting worse, not better, everytime I drop him off. Today he started crying as soon as we hit the parking lot. I just feel like he's always going to cry and he'll never like it! They say he stops the hysterics after 20-30 mins or so, then he's kind of on and off crying until I get him. Everyone tells me eventually they do love it, I just am not sure. It's only been two weeks, so I'm probably just jumping the gun by saying it won't get better. It just makes me so sad and feel horrible every time I leave him hysterical. :(

When did your toddler stop crying and adjust to school or daycare?!?

Re: When did your kid stop crying at daycare/school?

  • My youngest started daycare last summer at around27 months.  He cried hysterically for about 2 weeks and then would cry on and off for a few months.  It was a really hard adjustment and I probably cried along w/ him.  He was going 5 days a week so that helped because if we ever skipped a Friday and were home for a 3 day weekend then that Monday was even harder.
  • My daughter is 5 and has been crying for 2 yrs at drop off. She is fine after a few min but uip til a few wksago she was still crying. She likes school but doesn't want me to leave....
  •  my guess is about 2 months.  my daughter just started too and she cries the whole walk into the school and in the classroom for about 10 minutes. she has gotten better, tehy told me it takes 2 months to adjust. but can still have crying days. hang in there. they just miss you, not that they dont like it.  hugs
  • i dont think my situation is the same, Avery's been in daycare since she was 11 weeks old. She went through a clingy phase a little bit at like 15 months-ish, but that has totall stopped.

when she was crying i just gave her a kiss and walked out the door. the teachers were always able to calm her down.
