Hi all. I know its been a while since i have been on here. Everyone is fine, I went back to work in June and its been a whacky schedule, but I think we are in the groove now.
We are having some issues with Daniel (he just turned 4 this month.) and i thought who better to ask, then the est. you all all full of information, and i figure someone would be able answer some questions.
Here is a rundown of what has been going on. Daniel's behavior is not wonderful. He is very hands on and acts impulsively. He is not mean, just has a tough time controlling his body. This spring we noticed that he was still drooling, and at age 3 he was too old to be doing that. We went to a few drs. We learned some ways to correct the drooling and making his mouth muscles stronger.
Fast forward to this winter, after a cold, we noticed we have a hard time understanding him sometimes, mouth breathing, and snoring, and drooling again. We went to the ENT, who gave him a round of antibiotics. And went back after a month. He had not improved as much as she would have liked. She used an instrument with a long black tube and stuck it in his nose. He did not like that! She saw his adenoids were enlarged and is concerned that they are chronically infected. She put him on another round of stronger antibiotics and mentioned we may want to consider removing the adenoids.
Anyone have experience with this? What is the reason you removed/didn't remove your child's adeniods?
Re: Its been a while and adenoids surgery for kids
Sorry to hear Daniel isn't feeling well!!
We had Sabrina's tonsils and adenoids removed last year. She was having a terrible time breathing at night. She sounded like she was gasping for air...it was getting so bad I had her sleep with us b/c I was scared she would stop breathing.
We had the T&A done and that night she was a different person!
Sorry you are going through this..it did help us.
Mangia! My Family Table
Lia had her adenoids and tonsils out last April. She was sick a lot last winter-- and after tons of antibiotics, she couldn't breathe through her nose, and was snoring terribly at night. Nothing worked-- so our pedi. referred us to an ENT. They X-rayed her and did a physical exam-- and found her tonsils to be super engorged, almost touching, and her adenoids as well were enlarged.
Two weeks later, she had them both removed and the doctor told us that while they weren't the largest he had ever seen, they were top 5 in his experience the largest in proportion to her little body...so they were BAD.
We noticed an immediate improvement-- that night we didn't hear a noise coming from her room. Her health improved, her energy increased (got better rest at night), and her voice actually got a little higher, lol.
I would do it again in a heartbeat-- it was the best thing we did for her.
Good luck and keep us posted!
