We electrocuted our fish

This morning Jay says, "If you go in the basement and smell something buring, the heater broke on the fish tank." After I ask him about the fish he said, Yeah, it's dead. But it's newly dead b/c the body is still "fresh" looking.

Then he emails me and says, "heater cracked and split in ? and leaked out goop and grease  from the internals of the heater. The remnants of the heater was also sparking when I pulled it out of the tank and I can only presume it electrocuted my fish what a nightmare!"

Poor fish AND so happy HE didn't get electrocuted when checking out what was happening!

Re: We electrocuted our fish

  • Well, your fish just wanted to go out with a bang!  Poor fishy.

  • Yikes, poor fish! Glad Jay wasn't hurt!
  • Yikes. That sucks about the fish, but I'm glad Jay wasn't hurt!
  • I'm always secretly happy when our fish die and we can get rid of the freaking aquariums and not clean it anymore.
  • :( Poor fishie! But I am glad to hear your husband was not injured in the process!

  • Poor fishy, but if I recall correctly, you were waiting on him to die anyway b/c you don't want any more fish, right?   Still, terrible fate for the little guy, may he RIP.

Glad your H didn't get a shock to his system and that it wasn't you who had to discover the dead fish.

  • I can see it now:  "Tonight at 11, Mario Hilario shows you the hidden dangers of fish ownership..."

Sorry about the fish, but glad YH is fine!

    OMG too funny.

Erin - originally yes, but them MH decided he wanted a better tank and more corall. So now we'll be buying a new fish once the new tank comes in.

Ala the tank is in our basement room, so I never see it and I claim no ownership to it whatsoever. Therefore, I refuse to clean it.

  • Oh no Sad it was a salt water tank?? What kind of fish was it?

Glad YH wasn't hurt.. was it a glass heater?  The Marineland heaters are the best, they don't break easily and has an automatic shut off.
