I am getting so sick of the movie industry. Especially after watching Cowboys and Aliens...what a mess.
Once again my Netflix DVD was just a rental DVD and didn't offer the extended version/director's cut or commentaries. I don't really care about commentaries or extras but I always watch the unrated/director's cut/extended version. Most of the time it saves a movie from being completely indecipherable. I am even questioning whether these rental DVDs offer the blu-ray experience I am paying for.
Is this a now permanent thing with Netflix? Is it like this on the streaming or do you get a choice?
The reason I joined Netflix was because I was tired of Blockbuster censorship.
Re: Stripped Down Rentals
I think that is guaranteed to be the future of all rentals- I think they are that way from Redbox too. Movie companies don't make nearly as much from rentals as from movie purchases, so they need a way to make people continue buying movies in a time when so many people download movies for free or subscribe to Netflix. Streaming Netflix doesn't offer any extras, but some older movie DVDs still probably come with extras.
So, I don't like it either, but it is completely understandable why it is happening. It is completely the movie distributor's decision, not Netflix/Blockbuster.
