Girls day/night out in Lincoln

I?m meeting some girlfriends in Lincoln in a few weeks since some of them are scattered in Nebraska ? it?s central.  We got a room at the Embassy downtown.

What should we do??  Is there any good shopping/stores around there?  Can you suggest possibly a nail salon in that area?  Yes we?ll all have cars, but we?re trying to just hang out downtown and take in what it has to offer.  Any suggestions for out of the norm restaurants?
Also, has Barry?s closed yet?

Re: Girls day/night out in Lincoln

  • Couple restaurant suggestions:

Blue Orchid.  It's Thai food.  I've only had it once and was scared to try it at first, but went with some co-workers and it was AMAZING.  I had the pad thai noodles I think...YUM-MO.

BisonWitches.  I haven't had this in a while but they have some good sandwhiches/soups.  It's also a bar if you wanted to drink too.

YiaYia's pizza on O st (between 14th and Centenial Mall I think??).  Get their red pesto sauce for dipping your bread.  Mmmmmm...

Oh!  And the Green Gateau for breakfast (or any meal...but their breakfast is amazing!!  Strawberry stuffed french toast.  I'm drooling...)

  • I 2nd the Green Gateau for breakfast/brunch!  The stuffed Brioche is also amazing!  It has a great atmosphere!

Marz bar is a fun and somewhat intriguing place to get a drink...mainly martinis..it's a little strange, but I think that's why it's fun...downtown next door to the exit of the movie theater.

  • Starlite Lounge is pretty cool----Martini bar. Its below Buzzard Billys in the Haymarket. It reminds me of something out of the Jetsons :)

In the basement of Brewsky's, they have the dueling pianos I believe every weekend.

Might be a little chilly walk, but see if pershing has the roller derby girls playing that night. I've always wanted to do this but havnt yet.

Also, hockey games if its something your interested in. I think the games are a bit farther than walking distance.

I'm not sure about nail salons or shopping. But here is the downtown Lincoln listings. There are a couple salons listed but didn't see any that I know anything about.  http://downtownlincoln.org/play/shopping/P0/

Barry's was supposed to close the last Husker game, so pretty sure its probably done for.

The Lied Center is walking distance from the Embassy. They might have something going on also at that time.

  • Great!!

Anyone, shopping?  Nails?  Or is downtown Lincoln not the place to do that?

  • I'm not sure on the nails...I know there's a couple salons on 16th, but I don't know anything about them.  As far as shopping goes, there a lot of little shops in the Haymarket and Downtown areas.  There's a relatively new little fun shop called Embellish on 12th & P...clothing, accessories, etc...that you might like.  If you are going to be there Friday, February 3rd that annual Chocolate Lover's Fantasy will be held at the Embassy.  This is a fundraiser for CEDARS and features all sorts of yummy desserts for sampling.  I've gone twice, and it never disappoints.

  • Honestly shopping in downtown Lincoln isn't really that great but there are a few fun shops in the Haymarket.  One called One Thousand Villages which is a free-trade store so there are some pretty original pieces.  I have no idea about salons either, sorry.  If it's not too cold you could go to Ivanna Cone which is also in the Haymarket, they make awesome homemade ice-cream and their waffle cones are to die for!  They don't take credit cards though so try and bring cash, I'm not sure on checks.  I love the Starlight Lounge and Zen's on the same block as The Grand movie theatre is also a good lounge.  Mamma Mia is also at the Lied the weekend of February 3rd if you're interested in that.
  • i like going to nuvibe for coffee, and the other ladies have good suggestions for lunch spots. there's not much for shopping downtown as far as i know, but i really haven't spent much time there in a long time.

  • Shopping downtown:

    Duo Shoes

    The post and nickle

     The back market

    Stella

    Ruby  Begonia's

    Downtown salon:

Tangerine - its a very laid back and fun place. I've only been there for the art walk (first Friday of the month) but they had some really cool hair styles they were showing off.
