Tankless Water Heater

DH and I would like to install a tankless water heater in our home, but really don't know that much about the installation of one.  Have any of you installed one in your home?  Did you do it yourself of hire someone?  About how much did it cost you?  Thanks!!!

Re: Tankless Water Heater

  • Hey! How are you?I've heard lots of things both positive and negative about them. My plumber hates them and inspector loves them. You made need a water softener to make it work right, they don't mesh with Houston's hard water. Equipment and install are usually $2-3k.
  • We have one and love it, but it was installed when the house was built.  Don't know much about retro-fitting.

I can't comment on if its saved us money or anything but I like how i never run out of hot water :)

  • They don't save you much more money than a regular one. Plus people always think it is instant hot water... it isn't. It just heats up quicker.

Word.  We have one and I feel like we have more hot water than we did with a traditional water heater - except in our bathroom.  About half way through our shower, it gets ice cold and takes about 3-4 grueling minutes to heat up again. However, this is only in our shower.  Our house has issues.
