If you go down the shore, but don't rent a house..

Where do you stay?

I want to go down for around 4 days, and obviously cannot rent for that short of a time.

What hotels are good and close to the beach?

I'm open to suggestions as to what town, but I'd like one with a boardwalk with rides for the kids.

Thanks for your help.

  • we stay at the windswept.  it's within a long walk to the point pleasant boardwalk and has beach access.  the people are REALLY nice there, too.
proof that i make babies. jack, grace, and ben, in no particular order

  • whats your criteria? walking distance to the boardwalk? driving would be ok. what type of ammenties do you need
  • we went to Ocean City 2yrs ago and stayed at http://www.ocean7hotel.com/

We loved it - right behind the boardwalk/beach... we had a suite, so it was a nice room for us to be in with the kids so we could stay up later at night, etc.  It's SOOOO family friendly - a dry city, so no drunk a-holes all over the place (b/c no bars).

The rides and games were not that expensive - and geared towards young kids. We had a blast.  We didn't go last year b/c we went to hawaii... but this summer I think we'll go for a few days again.

I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.

  • We usually go to Wildwood Crest for a few days in the summer.  It's a short drive to the boardwalk (or depending on where you stay could even walk).  We have stayed at the Armada, Bristol Plaza and Acacia.  All are ocean front w/pools....
  • we also stayed at the Paradise motel in Wildwood Crest - it's not super nice or anything- but is RIGHT on the beach, has a nice little grill area you can cook at and eat outside so you aren't always going out to eat... but it is a drive to the boardwalk, restaurants, etc.

that's why i preferred Ocean City b/c we were right there and walked to everything- never needed our cars at all.

Marie, walking distance to boardwalk would be preferable, but driving would be ok.  A suite would be nice, but we'll make due if that's not available.  A pool would also be nice, but not necessary.

  • Are you planning on going in the main part of the season? If not, you may be able to rent a house/condo for a few days vs. a week before Memorial Day or after Labor Day.

Wildwood Boardwalk and Ocean City Boardwalk both fit the criteria you mentioned.

If you decide to do Wildwood, I'd stick with North Wildwood/Anglesea hotels/motels or Wildwood Crest hotels/motels. While you won't be exactly walking distance to the boardwalk, you will be in a nicer area. The Wildwoods are still the only FREE beaches around- no beach tags!

  • there are some Wildwood condos that will rent for shorter times than a week. Especially ones that were motels converted to condos. You can find a lot on vacationrentals.com

  • The White Sands in Pt. Pleasant is amazing! We have the beat memories there. Pool and spa and right across from the boardwalk and beach.

  • Many motels in Wildwood have kitchenettes with at least a refrigerator, burners, a microwave & a grill outside which cuts down on eating out.

We stayed at the Olympic (I think) last year & it even had two rooms so you can put the kids to bed & stay up a bit if you like.

The Fleur de Lis was the nicest hotel I have ever been in on the Jersey Shore.
