Anyone use a Goddard school?

We are (mostly) happy where we are at, but just keeping the options open for the future. There is one near us (South Emerson in Denver) and I have heard good things about it but I don't know anyone personally there and it is relatively new. Feel free to PM me if you prefer.

Re: Anyone use a Goddard school?

  • I don't personally, but my co-worker takes her son there and they love it. When we were deciding where DD should go to school now that we are moving I was toying with using this school since it is near work and my co-worker went on and on about how we should use it as it is wonderful - we decided to go with a school closer to our home, but it seems like a great place.

  • I used to teach at the Goddard School in Fort Collins.  They have a great mission and pretty strict curriculum for teachers to plan around.  I liked the structured schedule with lots of "learn through play" though it wasn't as much as a Montessori setting.  I also love that they require teachers to teach some Spanish and Yoga!  : )  Obviously, I can't speak for that location but the Goddard company does audits of the schools regularly and they can't stay open if they aren't in compliance and doing things "the Goddard way".  Let me know if you have any "insider" questions ; )

    I replied. :)

  • We took a tour of the Goddard school near us when I was pregnant with DD since they take infants starting at 6 weeks and I was working part time.  We loved it, but decided to go through a in-home daycare, who actually used to work at a Goddard School.  We decided not to use it because of the price of tuition, it was almost as much as our mortgage at the time and I was only working part time and DH had only been at his job for a little over a year (only out of school a little over a year previously too) so we really couldn't afford to send her there although we really wanted to.  That was 4 years ago so, I don't know if anything has changed, I started staying home once we had DS.
  • we looked at the Goddard School and decided against it. I liked what I saw, but husband thought it was WAY too regimented and scheduled and thought it was more like "school" and that a 1 1/2 year old shouldnt have to be on such a tight schedule.  Like from 8 to 830 is snack and 9 to 930 is painting and then 930 to 10 is snack etc.

Molly is in a home daycare and it's worked out well.  she loves it there and we like that she is around all age groups (granted there are only 5 kids at a time)

After 2 years of IF, and moving forward with adoption we were thrilled to discover we were pregnant with no intervention in 2009. Miss Molly joined our family in February 2010 and we could not be more in love with our little angel. Lilypie Second Birthday tickers blog www.grumpysnickles.com

  • I worked for them for about 2 years in Longmont & Erie and taught as well as worked as assistant director. If you have any questions from that perspective, let me know.

  • My son's been in a Goddard School for over a year now and I've been very happy with them.  He had a great infant class, and he's learning quite a bit every day.  He has recess twice a day, his teachers have not changed around in the year we've been in school (he's been in 2 rooms so far), and the Directors have been very helpful on the rare occasion we've had issues.  My son knew about 25 signs before he could even talk (I know none...but now I know some of the ones they have taught him!) and he's all about his yoga poses.  Cracks me up.  ;)

    YGPM!

    YGPM back.

  • I just found this Colorado board, but I wanted to chime in. First, we must live close to each other, the S Emerson Goddard school is right by us as well. I took a tour and liked a lot of what I saw. I'm going back to my teaching job in the fall and they weren't willing to work with me as far as dropping down during the summer, so that was kind of a deal-breaker for us. I've also heard they've had a lot of turnover there, but I didn't ask about that, it may just be rumor.

  • The location you are talking about is run by the same director as the SE Aurora location where N used to go.  We were very very happy with them.   The only reason we left was because we moved to a different part of town.
  • We looked at the SE Aurora location when DS was little since it was near DH's work.  Although I liked the program, the biggest deal-breaker for me at the time was the tiny space for the infants (who would be in that room while crawling and starting to walk).  To be honest, I can't remember what the toddler/preschool program was like since we were more focused on the infant aspect of it.  The location near you wasnt open yet so I have no idea how that one compares.
