How do you handle sick days?

These past 2 weeks have been really rough on us.

Both kids have had a cold, fever, pink eye and now stomach bug.

MH took off yesterday and today and I need to be home tomorrow so luckily I am working from home. I really hope this bug clears itself because I don't know what we will do if the kids keep getting sick.

Re: How do you handle sick days?

  • I take most of them - it's just always been easier for me to do it than Rob. If it's more than a day or two Rob will handle the second. I hate not being here when he's sick!

  • We try to get MH to take them since I don't get paid time off but that oesn't always work. If I have to stay home I try to do a little work but it depends on how sick and which kid.
  • It all depends on whose got what going on, whose got more days left. Last year I took a whole week off while we were both sick. It was awful. By Wednesday, I was begging J to stay home too cause I was so sick I could barely take care of W.

  • I hear you Jessie. Leo had strep, then an ear infection, and now pink eye. Matt and I take turns, but i work from home (but I cant watch the kids when they are sick and still work, it does not work and it's not allowed anyway) so when they are home sick and MH takes off, it's just as much me taking off because I can never get my work done.

It doesnt help that my work load is extremely heavy and my boss gives me sh@t when I have to take off. She doesnt have kids and has no idea. I am lucky that I can carry over sick time though so I have a lot banked for this very reason.

No thanks, I don't need child porn or Tweets from this site---thanks for the memories nesties---RIP, Franco---2004--2012.
  • I used to work at a hospital with sick kid daycare.  I was really hesitant but I couldn't take off since I had patients.  My kid loved it.  I was surprised.  She's dying to get sick again because she wants to go back.  Of course I was just a floor above her so I didn't feel too bad.  I could eat lunch with her, etc.

  • We are lucky that he goes to my mom so we really haven't had to take too many days so far. When we do though we takes turns and it really depends on what is going on. I have only 4 personal days a year and my sick days carry over. I have TON of sick days but they are really being strict with them now. We are really not supposed to take them for our kids but if we are up all night caring for our child and cannot perform at work the next day we can consider it a sick day. Taking days makes me really nervous but Keegan really should come 1st.

  • I tend to take more because 1.) I have more days and 2.) I've been with my employer longer... Frank only started for Bloomie's in June so I really don't want him taking too many days.

If we need to leave to get her from DC, I ick her up because logisitcally it's what works - I work 20 minutes away and he'd have to come from the city and likely wouldn't make it within the 1 hour window.

We try to split as evenly as possible but probably 70% of the time it is me that stays home

  • I used to take 98% of them and my parents filled in the rest. But with my new position, dh will take on the role of stay at home parent because I no longer have that flexibility. Neither of us can work from home, so it's full time off for either
  • I stay home with them the majority of the time.  My kids need their momma when they are sick and I hate not being there with them. My job is also more flexible than his.
