Discuss: Oscar nominations

The Oscar nominations came out today! Full list here. So, what do you think? I think The Help is going to sweep a lot of categories.

Best Picture:

?War Horse?

?The Artist?

?Midnight in Paris?

?Moneyball?

?The Descendants?

?The Tree of Life?

?The Help?

?Hugo?

?Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close?

Re: Discuss: Oscar nominations

  • Honestly? I have no idea. Of all the movies on that list, I've only seen "The Help." I find DH and I go to movies less and less. Not sure why -- maybe because it's gotten so expensive.

Also, I find it annoying how many movies are nominated.

I'm not being very helpful, am I?

  • They were talking about this on the Entertainment board, and I was surprised at how many people hated The Help.

But, since The Help is the only one I have seen on the list, I have no idea. I know I really wanted to see The Artist and Midnight in Paris, but I almost never see anything in theater anymore.

ETA: I also saw Hugo. I dunno, I like both of the movies I saw, but didn't really think of them as Oscar movies.

I saw both of these and they were very good, but not Oscar worthy. The Help just has that wholesome, popular appeal so I think it will win (not that it necessarily should win- two different things). I've heard The Descendants is supposed to be excellent though.

  • The only movie I've seen from the list is The Descendants, and I thought it was really great. However, if it wins best picture, I might conclude that this wasn't a super stellar year for movies...
  • um, I have seen none of them. Sorry, I am no help.

Ditto. I usually don't see movies until after their Oscar season.
  • either i'm the one who's getting more fickle when it comes to the oscars or its the academy ...

i think EL and IC will get it simply b/c of the 9/11 connection

MC's Hugo despite it's ELEVEN nominations won't come home w/ half that amt

while i LOVE melissa mccarthy in Bridesmaids, i doubt she'll win. same goes for kirsten wiig and writing .. but i think they're THRILLED just to be nominated

while The Help seems to have a ton of noms, i don't think it'll get far. this year looks to be a total head scratcher when it comes to the winners. i expect The Artist to be the darling of the night.

  • I've heard so many good things about Drive I'm surprised it didn't get more nominations.

Also, I haven't seen Shame, but am dying to see it, and I personally think Michael Fassbender is an amazing actor and super hot. He deserves to be nominated for everything, including my next husband award.

I hereby nominate Michael Fassbender to be L.'s next husband. I wish you two all the best together Big Smile

Lol. Thank you. Do you think he'll be freaked out if I mail this conversation to him? I think I'd get a lovely letter back from his lawyer warning me to stay 500 feet away at all times.

Nah... I think you'd have to do a lot worse to get a letter from a lawyer. What you're talking about is very low on the stalking Richter scale  :P
