If you made something for a sick friend/family member

What did you bring?

Friend is home recovering from multiple surgeries and chemo. She is unable to cook.

I want to bring stuff for her..I'm thinking a main dish, a side and dessert..something that will keep in the freezer?

Re: If you made something for a sick friend/family member

  • Something that can be heated in a microwave and used in a couple of ways.  I like to do a roast beef with mashed potatoes, a green vegetable and cole slow.  I also take rolls and a green salad.  The leftovers can be a complete do-over or it can just be sandwiches.  I usually make chocolate chip cookies or brownies.

Hope your friend has a quick recovery.

  • I have made food for sick relatives before and for friends after having babies. I have made pot pie (don't even really need a side), lasagna/garlic bread, soup which was split into two nights worth (I included french bread to go with it that can also be frozen and then just toasted in the oven. If it is a soup with pasta, I just give them a box of that kind and then they can add that in to cook when they reheat the soup). For dessert, I have made loaves of breads- pumpkin or banana or brownie bites. The brownie bites freeze really well and are nice because you can take a few out at  a time. They are delicious with some cool whip on top. Chocolate chip cookies also freeze well.

  • ziti, chicken soup, chicken casseroles, homemade mac and cheese.
  • when my mom was sick, someone brought us a cooked ham (that they cut and put in a tray) and a couple of sides that went with it. it was a nice dinner that I'd imagine was easy. It also fed all of us a few days.

What a great idea. Thanks for sharing this. I have to keep it in mind the next time i need to make a meal for someone. There are so many options after that one meal!

  • I try to do something different since many people bring ziti or lasagna.  I have done a full chicken with sides.  That's actually my easiest.  I make the sides the night before and put in throw away containers and then the chicken is just popped in the oven.
  • my bff and cousin had babies last month...i stocked their freezers with turkey noodle soup (they add the noodles), gravy, chicken pot pie, mac and cheese and chicken pastina bake
