Re: Questions to ask a prospective nanny...
Clear it up immediately whether you're paying her over or under the table. That's the first thing. MOST prefer to be paid under the table but if you're going to use her regularly, it should be legit so you can deduct her on taxes - but she'll probably want to be paid more. It's annoying but a normal argument for nannies.
Will she clean/help prep meals? This is a deal breaker for some families/nannies.
References? Obviously call several people, get a background check, etc.
Safe car? Will she be driving your daughter around? She may not be okay with being stuck in the house all day. Driving record?
Make sure you click with her and be picky. I *may* know of someone. Do you want somebody 40 hours a week or just part time?
Ditto Carrot's advice.
To add: Make sure you see them interact with your DD. I was amazed at how some of them that looked AWESOME on paper didn't even glance at my kids. The ones that felt "right" were the ones that barely made eye contact with me because they were holding/playing with/ in the floor with my child(ren).
I ended some interviews quickly because they didn't even notice that my kid(s) were even in the room with us.
Your gut will go a long way. Of course you want someone with good experience and qualifications but finding someone who will snuggle and love on your child is invaluable.
I also may know of someone if you don't find the perfect fit in your batch of candidates......
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
I would like to talk with someone you know.
