moms of infants: what bottles do you recomend these days?

I used Dr. Browns with Alexa...5 years ago..before the BPA free thing started, and I was happy with them (well hated cleaning all the parts, but that's besides the point)...i was told that Born Free is good, but really i have no idea...i know it really depends on what the baby takes to or not, but im not going to buy multiple kinds...alexa just took right to the bottle we gave her....the one thing that is different this time, is that i will be attempting to breastfeed (i was not able to due to the amount of meds I was on for crohns)....so im hoping to not need bottles in the beginning anyway...BUT, i may also pump, so then again, maybe i will....SO, any suggestions on what's good out there now? is dr. brown's still good?  born free? others im not knowing about?

Thanks!!

Re: moms of infants: what bottles do you recomend these days?

  • Dr. Brown has BPA free as well if you wanted to stick w/ them.
  • Most bottles are BPA-free now...check on-line -- if they are, they list it in the product description.  I bought Born Free for LJ, although I haven't used them yet (BFing) so i really don't have any other input for you!  Lol.  As far as pumping...I totally plan on getting to this (so he can continue on BM once I am back to work) and was advised that while I can pump in the first few weeks, I shouldn't introduce the bottle until at least 3, preferably 4 weeks so that the baby's latch and the mother's supply are well established.

  • I was in the same boat 4 years ago - most bottles weren't BPA free yet. By the time I had DD#2 in 2010 pretty much every bottle maker had BPA free bottles. My suggestion would be to buy the cheapie Gerber BPA free bottles to start with. I think a 3 pack is like $5 at BRU. I registered for the Born Free with DD#1 and got them as a gift and she hated them, so I barely used them and didn't even bother with them for DD#2. Both loved the Gerber cheapies and they were easy/cheap to replace when our dog had issues with DD#1 coming home and chewed up a bunch. Plus DD#1 had colic and reflux for 4 months and the Gerbers were what worked for her, so I thought they were just as good as expensive bottles.

  • Cora has only gotten a bottle twice so far and she took the tommy tippee boob shaped bottle fine. I love that it doesn't have all the parts of dr. browns.

  • I pump & we use Medela and they are the best for Anna so far.... The first time we gave her a bottle it dripped all over her face and I thought the flow was too fast, but she got used to them. :)

  • I used Avent with all three kids.  They used to leak but now that improved the design and don't anymore.  Super easy to clean.

  • I recommend Born Free and Playtex ventaire.  They both have a system of removing air, but easier to clean than Dr. Brown.
  • My DS is almost 2.5 but I really liked the Dr. Brown's bottles... they're BPA free as far as I'm aware.

  • We used the Medela that came with my pump at first and now we use Dr. Browns (they are BPA free).  I'm still BFing and pumping and she only gets a total of 4 bottles a week while I'm at work, but DH and I still hate cleaning all the parts of Dr. Browns.  I'd rather not use them anymore, but I'm not switching this late in the game.

  • We tried a bunch...I hated all of the parts with Dr Browns/Born Free. We started with playtex drop ins but eventually got tired of having to buy the bags, not being able to mix formula in the bottle when out and about (you can't really shake it hard enough to mix). We ended up switching to the Nuk bottles at 5 or 6 months and loved them- very easy to clean and inexpensive. THe nipples are the same shape as the Nuk pacifiers as well.

  • I used Dr Brown's with Bella and now A. They are BPA free so no worries there.
  • we got dr browns again and they are great w cole
  • I used Dr Browns with all three.  They are BPA free.  At one point all three were on bottles at the same time and there was no way I could clean by hand bottles for 2 13 month olds and a newborn.  I got the dishwasher baskets and put the parts in there and put the bottles on the top rack.  It's never been a problem.

  • Born Free. Expensive but well worth it AND they don't leak.
