if you room-shared (co-slept, whatever)

I know there a some moms on here who did past the first few weeks - when did you transition to a crib?  Any tips?  Claudia is almost 7 months and still in the Arms Reach Cosleeper, which I absolutely love because I barely wake up during the night for her feedings.  However, she's getting up on to her hands and knees now so I feel like it's quickly becoming less safe, so I'm thinking it's time for her to be in the crib overnight.  She goes down in the crib for bedtime so she's kind of used to it, but is up 3-4 hours later and that's when I bring her in our room.  I'm just afraid I'll be less rested since I'll actually have to get up and out of bed during the night - or did moving the baby to the crib help them sleep longer? (she totally knows I'm right next to her)

  • MIkey slept better once he was in the crib, but still woke once a night, pretty much, until he was 11 months- he was a total comfort nurser at night, and no matter what we tried he still needed it, then after his tubes went in, we did real hard core CIO. I think he also knew that I was right there and could comfort nurse at all times-

  • we started the nights in the crib, and then once they woke up after we went to bed, they came into our room for the remainder of the night. this way we weren't keeping anyone from sleeping through the night- both of them eventually stopped waking up. we did not use a co-sleeper, they would just sleep between us.
  • DD has slept in her crib since Day 1 so I can't help with the transition aspect of your question.  But at 8 months, she still wakes once a night to nurse.  I just go in, sit in the glider, nurse, and put her back in the crib when she falls alseep. I'm back in bed in 15 minutes, 20 tops.  I'd suggest just trying it one night and see how it goes.  She may be waking more often just because you're there and she can sense it and she wants the closeness.

  • Yea, I need to bite the bullet and just try it out one night to see how it goes.  Typically, she's up twice a night to eat, but sometimes it goes up to as many as 4 times for comfort.  I just keep thinking 4 times getting out of bed for 15-20 minutes each is a solid hour+ of sleep lost compared to maybe minutes of pulling her into bed to nurse then moving her back to the cosleeper whenever I realize it. I'm hoping that she'll be one to sleep better in the crib... maybe tomorrow night.
