H has an employee who's been smelling bad lately. Today a customer complained and H's boss made him pull the employee aside and tell him about the complaint.
Poor H said he started rambling and asking if he was having issues at home, needed help doing laundry, buying bath soap etc. What an awkward situation to be in.
Re: How awkward
another reason why it's okay to not be the boss. how does that conversaion start
"hey..buddy..urm...you smell and the customers know it-"
Ugh. I hate that.
There was a guy with similar smell issues that my husband worked with and hung out with.
Some of the other guys started 'picking' on him, leaving deodorant in his locker and such.
They felt like the hugest assholes after he killed himself.
H's boss could've manned up and talked to the employee. No need to pawn it off on him, ya know?
I'm still so glad/proud of my husband for inviting that guy to do things with him, being nice to him, and having conversations.
I don;t think he would be able to live with himself if he'd felt he was part of the problem.
-- Does your H know if he has access to running water?
The guy said everything was ok at home, so I'd assume but I could be wrong.
OMG, Ala...what a terrible situation.
Megamuff, I feel bad for your H. It must suck being the one who has to say something. It sounds like he was nice and polite as possible about it though.
I went to college with some foreign exchange students from Nigeria and I felt so bad for them. They smelled awful and people would make snide comments about it, but it was obviously a cultural thing and they weren't aware.
