Painting kitchen cabinets

Has anyone done this themselves?  It is easy?  My parents are buying a new house and I want to pant the cabinets but I was wondering how hard it was to do yourself.  There are not a lot of cabinets to be painted.

Re: Painting kitchen cabinets

  • My dad did his and they looked like sh@t.

I hired LizDPs husband to do ours in our townhouse (i told them to do exactly what he did for his) and they were AWESOME. When we sold our house, ppl actually complemented us on the kitchen (and we didnt do all that much work to it except update the floors, fix the ceiling and replace a light fixture, and paint those cabinets. I highly recommend him...he's in Summit area.

  • Thank you Jess! :-D

I asked Matt what he does to make the finish so perfect and he said a few things - the brush, the paint additives (which apparently depends on whether you use oil or latex) and you have to do multiple coats very lightly.

Yup, that stinks. Email me if you want more details of what to do - he's in guitar land right now, so not helpful. lizparcells at gmail

  • I did them and had a LOT of cabinets and drawers to paint.  It wasn't hard but tedious.  They came out really nice but I took my time.  I had to sand them, clean them and use a special paint (can't remember them name now...).  It took 2 coats and  I went from an olive green stain to white.
