Can you recommend your favorite toys that challange a dog?

I have a knock off Kong that we freeze dog safe peanut butter in and she gets through that in about 5 mintues, but will still chew on it for a bit.  She also has this ball that screws together and you put treats in and she has to figure out how to get them out. That last about 5 minutes as well.

Can you ladies recommend something that might keep her attention alittle longer? She really needs something to challange her because she is now learning her inside manners.

Yes! You'll have to supervise with these toys, but it is amazing to see your dog try and solve the puzzles. We have the Dog Fighter (what a terrible name!), which is a level 2, and I think we'll be looking for a harder one soon.

We also have a tug a jug and an everlasting fun ball.

  • To make the kong a bit longer lasting, we use a layering approach.  I stick a soft treat in the small hole to "seal" it, and then I layer in all kinds of goodies like kibble, pumpkin, unsweetened applesauce, fruit, cheese, peanut butter, etc... and freeze.  It seems to take her a lot longer to get it out when there's a variety of stuff in there.

We do cut back on her food on the days she has one of these so we won't pack on the pounds.

Zoey will totally leave stuff in the small end of her Kong. It's like she gives up when it gets too far back. :P I wish she'd work and dig it all out! I hate rinsing out/throwing out Kong "leftovers"!

  • My dog loves her Kong "genius" we started just putting her kibble in it, so it was easy for her to get it out.  Now we put a couple of larger biscuits in there and she works on it for hours.  She slaps it and whines at it, it's pretty funny to watch.

  • I got the aikiou food bowl for my genius female Chihuahua.  I saw someone put a clip online of her dog with it--she was showing her dog how to use it and everything, and the dog still struggled to figure it out.  I thought I would give it a try.  I put it down and sat down in a chair across the room, and my girl figured it out in a couple of minutes!  I suppose it depends on the dog....

Bueller and Piper do the same thing. Luckily, Elsie will gather up all of their Kongs, and lick them clean :)
