This is normal, right? re: refusing bottle

I know this had been posted before but I never read them because they did not apply to me. Andrew is teething bad & in the last week had begin completely refusing his bottle. He will eat solids with no issues but trying to give him a bottle is like torture to him....LOL. This is normal, right? Any tips on how I can get him back to "normal" would be appreciated. TIA!

  • Yup...Olivia goes through phases with the bottle...when she's teething usually advil helps and she'll start drinking it once the pain is gone. This last time she wasn't drinking it but it was because of strep...but I noticed that she would drink out of her sippy. Sometimes it doesn't bother them as much to drink out of the sippy so you can try that. Hope he's back to normal soon.

  • Yup totally normal.  Ash goes through this when she's cutting new teeth.  I think the pressure from sucking hurts.  I find she'll drink when she's thirsty/hungry enough or I'll give her tylenol to make her more comfortable if she's really irritable.

  • Will he drink the milk from a sippy or even an open cup? I don't remember how old he is, but Julia refused the bottle at 10 months. She would gladly drink from a cup, so we decided we were done with bottles and let her switch to cups. Emma never frequently had a bottle (we nursed) but her last one was at like 9 months.

If he's happy with solids and drinking from a cup and still getting what he needs, there's no reason it needs to come from a bottle.

  • He is 11.5 months. I am going to try the sippy and open cup. We gave been working on that recently so more of a reason to push it. Thank you ladies!
  • At that close to 1 I'd switch over and be thankful we didn't have to fight to transition!

    you are soo right!  thanks!!

  • This is actually how I got my son to switch to the cup.  He was teething and refused the bottle, we started him on a straw cup and never looked back.  Made the transition really easy.  He was just under a year.
