When did you swtich from bottle to cup for milk?

I was aiming for at a year but Ash wants no part in the sippy cup.  She'll gladly take water in it but not milk.  I tried cold turkey one day but by 5 pm and her having no milk all day and screaming/crying like a wild woman at each bottle time I caved.  I'm thinking she's just not ready yet but I feel pressure from the ped to get her off bottles asap.  Oh and I bought the nuby one that's most liek a bottle nipple so that it wasn't too much of a change.  That worked with the other kids but not her yet..

Re: When did you swtich from bottle to cup for milk?

  • By the time Adam was 1, he was off the bottle completely and using the Nuby cup for milk and other types of sippys for juice and water.

Julia is almost a year and refuses to drink out of a sippy for milk.

  • DS never really took bottles much, but started taking a sippy with water in it around 5/6 months. But, he would not take BM in the sippy at all.

I started giving him cow's milk in the sippy at 12 months & he drinks it fine now.

Our pedi said no bottles by 15 months, FWIW.

  • Call the nest police on me but bottles made my kids happy. My oldest was 22 mos, my youngest was 26 mos. They both don't drink as much milk as they should now. But eat plenty of cheese and yogurt
  • I introduced the sippy around 6-7 months with water and then by 11 months started trying it with milk.  At first she hated it but by 11.5 months I had replaced 1 bottle with it and at 1 week after her 1st birthday I gave her her last bottle.  I figured if she could take 1 feeding with a sippy why did we need the bottle anymore at all?  She fought it and still sometimes looks mad when I hand it to her but if she wants milk that's the only way she's going to get it.  As far as she's concerned bottles don't exist anymore.

  • Around 11 or 12 months M was off bottles during he day but still got a nighttime one to make up for him drinking less during the day. Around 14 or 15 months he literally went and brought me a cup and motioned for me to pour his nighttime bottle into it. LOL.

Around 13 months S moved over completely.

But for both it was literally just one day they "got it". It was like suddenly a little light bulb went off and they were like "oh this is how it works".

  • This stressed me out so much with my first but honestly I don't see the big deal about keeping them on the bottle for a little while after their first bday.  L didn't put up a fight about it and was off the bottle completely by I think 14 months, we took her off during the day and then by 15 months she had one at night and I think one day just stopped it and she was fine.

  • m goes back & forth between bottle and straw cup...we haven't done a cold turkey drop of the bottle since she has no issue taking it from the cup...
  • ken TOTALLY tricked me with belle. told me to cut her cold turkey and thats what the ped said. well AFTER she did it. i learned he lied. he knew me and knew i'd constantly cave sayign she's  not ready ect. she's just a baby.

it was torture for about a week but we survived. and it was the hardest at night time. i bought her the nubby one too. eventually got her weened off of that.

  • James wanted no part of the sippy cup - until I tried the take and toss cups.  Not sure why, but as soon as I gave it to him and he took a sip he just started drinking!  I think the flow is a little more than the Nuby and Playtex cups.  Worth a try?
