What a relief and PSA

So last week I posted that A had RSV and an ear infection.  On Sunday we had her naming, she was on the antibiotics and much better but she still had this dry cough that sometimes I felt like she was choking and it was scary.  Took her back on Mon and they tested her for whooping cough/pertussis.  They said that although there is a vaccine there are many known cases this winter and she only had one round of the vaccine for it so far so they wanted to be on the safe side.  Of course I went home and googled the heck out of it and was driving myself insane and was so upset.  I kept thinking that we got everyone at the party sick with some infectious disease and didn't know it (last week the Dr. said it would be OK to still have the party since she was on the antibiotic and would have been done with the rsv symtoms by the time the party came around which she was, we also didn't let anyone hold her) I also felt like she was going to have to be hospitalized etc, I was freaking.  They told me if it was positive she would go on heavy antibiotics and would have it for 3 months!

They just called and told me it was negative.  Also she is much better since Monday so I was feeling better about it.  Anyway, I really feel like the comeback is because ppl are delaying vaccinations.  I'm not trying to start a debate but this is something that was eradicated in the 50's and 60's and now there are millions of cases each year.  In fact, someone in my Mom's school just got it.

  • I am so glad she is feeling better! And I agree- there is so much of these old school diseases coming back up. I am not saying you have to vaccinate all at once or anything, but I do think it is socially irresponsible to not vaccinate or delay it to a degree.

  • And actually after I had her in the hospital they asked me if I would take a booster for it since it is making a comeback and most people who are older are not immune anymore.  I did take the booster and am so glad I did now but they didn't offer it to DH which I feel they should have.  I want him to get one now.

  • 2 summers ago when we were going out to visit my dad in CA there were over 600 documented cases in the area. Though W was up to date on his vac's, I chose to get the booster for myself. Our good friend was PG at the time & I didn't want to take any chances getting or giving it to anyone. So scary.

  • Our pcp ordered it for MH. Just give them a call.

Mh was exposed to mumps while we had a baby too young to vaccinate at home. It's scary.

  • I agree with you 1000%.

I am glad she is doing better and I am very happy that the test came back negative.

huge like to this. and people OUR AGE NEED TO GET A N EW TETNUS SHOT BECAUSE IT HAS THE PERTUSSIS VACCINE IN IT. We need boosters.

The kids can't get the vaccine until they are 5 so this is very important

My ped was VERY adamant on this. And she told me that her bff who was a nurse wound up with whooping cough. through hersrelf into labor from coughing so much and the baby wound up passing.

    this is no joke.
