Clicky Anonymous Poll - Have you ever taken anti-depressants?

I have to go back on zoloft, which I was on for 18 months when Ryan was first born, for anxiety.  I hate the thought of being on it but I know I need it.  Just out of curiousity . . . [Poll]

Re: Clicky Anonymous Poll - Have you ever taken anti-depressants?

  • I need an "other". I have a script for zoloft for my PPD but I ended up getting through it with just meeting with a therapist.

But I have had them in the past to treat other conditions. Some anti-depressants are good for treating other conditions that can flare up because of stress like migraines and IBS.

And I want to add there is no shame in needing it. i would have taken the zoloft if I hadn't had a great therapist, a job flexible enough that gave me time to see her and the money to cover the fees of seeing her.

  • I've been on Zoloft since October 2010.

  • I'm a special snowflake

I was on prozac for about 9 months for PPD and now I take Xanax when I need it

  • Wow - thanks for the answers, ladies.  I guess it is very common for people in our situation.  I know this is a bit skewed since the people who have taken them are more likely to open this post, but it's a relief to see that I am far from being alone.

  • From the ages of 22-32 I was off and on antidepressants.   And then at my very worst anxiety a few years ago I needed Xanax.

I am really open about it because it's still taboo and looked at as being weak by some people.  Facing my depression and anxiety head on was the hardest thing I've ever done, but my life is so full because of it, I'd never trade it.

The first few times I was on antidepressants I had a therapist but never a good one. The last time I had the most amazing  psychiatrist who did my therapy and med management.  She completely changed my life by teaching me healthy ways to deal with emotions.

Feel free to pm me.  I'll share anything about the type of therapy, meds, etc.

  • I'm an "other' too.. I was given a script for Sarafem (same as prozac) for PMDD.  I havent taken it yet but I have a feeling I may need to this month. I'm supposed to take it the week before and the week after my period. I was told unfortunately that there is no 'as needed' pill for PMDD.. which sucks. Some months I'm fine, some months are REALLY bad.
  • I have been on zoloft since 2004...best decision that was ever made.  My dosage had gone up and down over the years

  • I also need an other. I know I would probably benefit from an anti-anxiety med right now (a lot of stressors in our life) but haven't had the time or energy to find a doctor, get in to see them, and get a prescription.

  • I take 10mg celexa daily and don't  hate it like I hate zoloft.  It just takes the daily edge off.  i don't' like the idea of being on medication, but I'm hoping to get stable and after a while wean off. I blogged about it today in fact.
