Dyson owners

Yesterday, DD spilled a bunch of dog food in the pantry on the floor.   I cleaned up what I could easily and then pulled my Dyson out to clean up the rest.

Well, somehow there was one of our dog's toothbrushes behind a box on the floor and my Dyson picked it up.   I was using the long hose - not the regular portion.   Now I can see it at the bottom before it curves into the rest of the vacuum.  How do I get it out?   Any suggestions?   Or suggestions for people who fix them to get this out?

Re: Dyson owners

  • You can take the 'elbow' piece off, it just snaps off.  I watched a YouTube video on how to take apart my Dyson, it comes off REALLY easily, but I can't exactly tell you where to pinch to unsnap it.

  • I know you can take it apart with a screwdriver.  I once tried to clean up a "doggie accident" before it was dry, and, it was just awful (ick, I get grossed out thinking about it).  But DH took off the base and we were able to clean it.  I'd think you'd be able to reach the toothbrush if you did this.  (maybe not?).

However, I have no idea how DH did this, as I'm terrible with taking things apart and putthing them back together.

  • Ditto PP.  I would try to unsnap that 'elbow/turn" piece.  I've taken mine off before when I sucked up a pen, and was able to snap it off and back on very easily :)

     Good luck!

no identifiable siggy pictures anymore, thanks a lot stupid nest!
  • You can easily detach the hose and get it out.  Also, while you have the hose out I suggest cleaning it.  I have cleaned it twice, just make sure you let it dry before reattaching.

I pull apart my dyson a few times a year and clean it thoroughly.

  • Thanks girls - I'll maybe try googling for a video.  Both DH and I looked and tried yesterday to get that elbow portion off and couldn't get it.

The Dyson website explains it, as well as the manual if you kept it!

  • Oh, and Dyson customer service is awesome, if you call them they will walk you through it step by step!!

Awesome - thanks!    If we have our manual, I have no idea where it is.   We bought it 6 years ago and moved since then.

  • It's really easy to take them apart and put them back together. I had to take the bottom elbow off of ours after cleaning up christmas tree mess and I just played around until I found the right releases for the elbow and the piece that follows it.
