Did anyone have their wedding somewhere "non-traditional"

My friend is going to be launching a blog called the Un-jersey Bride and is looking for some venues and vendors in NJ that are unique and fun.

This is the Facebook page for info http://www.facebook.com/UnjerseyBride

  • Does her magazine include South jersey/Philadelphia?  We didnt have our wedding there but we did look at the Mutter Museum- it has a beautiful space but also you the guests get to browse through the museum which is filled with medical oddities in jars, etc.  Its pretty morbid and cool at the same time

  • I wanted to get married at the Liberty Science Center, but, my cousin got married two years before me at the Franklin Institute in Philly and I thought it would be a little too similar.  But, both are cool venues!

  • At Waterloo Village--two ceremonies (one private in the middle of the park, the other in the tiny chapel there), then the reception at The Meeting House.  It wasn't super-sterile-fancy-venue, but we loved it and got so many compliments about it being unique.  We dressed it up on our own.  Unfortunately, I think the state stopped funding the park and it may still be closed down, but it's worth looking into.
  • we had our ceremony on a friends farm. the reception was on my moms property. obviously that doesn't help HER- but might help her think of people she knows with beautiful landscapes.
  • My cousin is having her reception this May at an aquarium but it is in Long Island.
  • We got married at Fonthill Estate and Museum in Doylestown, PA -- it's the former home of a multimillionaire who owned a ceramics factory. The buildings were beautiful, as as the property. We got married outside and had our reception under a big white tent.

We almost got married at the Fonthill. It is gorgeous there. We decided against it because I was nervous about getting bad weather.  Instead we chose the Aldie Mansion also in Doylestown. Worked out since it did rain!  We loved the Aldie, it's a historic site, old mansion.

  • Most of our idea was very non- traditional for the time.(more than 8 years ago before all the reality TV wedding shows)  But we kinda gave in on the venue because where we wanted to have it was over 3 hours away for most.

We did a Renaissance wedding on Halloween Weekend. ( see siggy pic)  We wanted to have it at a Castle way up in NY State....but it would have been way too far for H's Mom and local family at the time to trek that far. As it is the place we picked was almost a 2 drive for the Reverend and H's family (with his M being very sick and just getting released from the hostpital a 5 pm the night before... she was supposed to go back for a quadrupile bypass 3 weeks after our wedding)
