Radon testing without basement?

Our agent says it's up to us, but I don't know if it's worth it to pay for the test. Any thoughts?

Re: Radon testing without basement?

  • We did it and we don't have a basement.  Radon can enter your home through a concrete slab, so we figured better safe than sorry.  It wasn't that expensive and we know we don't have to worry about it.

  • Ditto pp.You don't have to have a basement to have radon in your house. I will always get radon testing in any future house. I had two cats that died in my house after living there two years and I can't help but wonder. We tested the radon and it was ASTRONOMICAL. The radon mitigation guys came out the next day.Spending the 800 to fix it sucked, but the cancer in my kitties really hurts and it sucks that I don't know if I did it to them or not.

  • We are on a slab and when we bought, multiple people told us a radon test was not necessary. We did it anyway and it came back positive. We had the sellers install a mitigation system.
  • Thanks everyone - testing it is!
