s/o restaurants - California Taco
I bought tickets to Saturday night's Creighton game for DH's birthday and asked where he would like to eat beforehand. He's been dying to try California Taco, so I ask...
1) Is it worth the hype?
2) Any reason to be nervous about going there after dark (this is from the small-town girl who doesn't go to that part of Omaha much!)?
3) Where else would you suggest if not Cali Taco?
Re: s/o restaurants - California Taco
Cali Taco is good stuff! However, I do think it's a bit overhyped...the best time to go is during their afternoon happy hour..half price drinks and cheap tacos.
The area isn't the best, but I would think you'd be fine..I'm sure you won't be the only Creighton folks in there....
1) Yes, I think it is very good.
2) Yes. I used to live near there and I saw a person get tazzered by police, heard multiple shootings at that corner, and had my car broken into once; cops were constantly at that corner. Does that answer your question?
3) No where. It is a pretty awesome place.
I love Cali Taco, but I second the pp, it's always best to go during their "happy hour", but if you are going before an event I bet you won't be the only creighton person there.
The area is run down but it's not terrible.
1. Its good, but totally trashy.
2. We live 3 blocks from there. That intersection has been greatly cleaned up over the last few years. Cali Taco is always busy before 8 pm-ish.
1. I'd say yes. Just their flour chips and salsa alone... yum.
2. The area is a bit sketchy, but as long as you're situationally aware, you'll be fine. Lock your doors and all.
I think it's good but kind of pricey on some stuff and when I've gone at lunch it has super long lines.
Neighborhood isn't the best but I'm guessing you'll be going during a busy time so don't worry.
I love Cali Taco! I wouldn't be afraid, but then again I go to Creighton and have been around the area for so long that it hasn't phased me. If you are worried about it, you could always try Union down by the CenturyLink Center. It's pizza, so it may not be exactly what he's looking for, but you wouldn't have that far to walk.
BTW, have fun at the game! I go to every game and am in the pep band. I play clarinet.
Good to hear that. It has been quite a few years since I've lived there, so my knowledge of it isn't current.
The businesses around there and the neighborhood association have done tons to improve it. Several neighbors purchased some of the scary house and tore them down and rebuilt. The Urban Village apartment that went in catty corner to Cali Taco also brought in a lot less sketchy tenants.
