Wedding ring after baby

I haven't been able to wear my wedding rings since I was five months pregnant. I keep trying it on hoping it will magically fit and it just doesn't. At what point do I call it and just take it in to get it resized.

I'm almost a month out from delivery and really, really want to wear it again. Are my fingers going to shrink anymore? My feet are completely back to normal and have been for weeks but I'm still battling with the carpal tunnel in my hands (can't feel my fingers still).

Re: Wedding ring after baby

  • I never used to have problems with my rings, but since Coop came along there are days when I am too puffy to wear my wedding ring.  :(

ETA - I got a super Klassy fakey wedding ring from Claires when my hand got to puffy to wear mine during pregnancy - it turned out to be silver painted plastic, and I only had it like 10 days before Coop came along.  It is in all of the pics of me at the hospital, and it always makes me smile because only I can really tell it isn't "my" ring.)  I still bust it out sometimes when my ring doesn't fit.

  • It was at least 6 months before I could wear my rings again.
  • I wasn't able to wear them comfortably again... :-(

  • I'm no measure of "normal," but I was able to wear them again after a couple months, I think, and I thought they would never fit again.

Dude, I'm *still* wearing my $10 Claires ring. The shiny coating has rubbed off the bottom, so it's either dull grey or the copper color underneath. And the tops of the prongs on top are now coppery too. Still get compliments on it, too - and I immediately spill the beans about its fakeness out of guilt.

ETA: I seem to always start my replies to you with "dude." Dude - we should do brunch.

  • I was able to wear my rings 2 weeks later.

  • I finally took mine to be resized last weekend.  Yes, 2 years later I finally admitted that I was only wearing my rings about 60% of the time because I didn't like how tight they seemed.  I should have done it much sooner!

ETA: I could get my rings on just fine after a few weeks but its like my fingers tend to swell more now so there are times they seem uncomfortable (and others they fit just fine).

  • It was about 2 months postpartum that I finally got my rings back on.  Don't give up yet!  I didn't have any postpartum swelling at all this time.  I just needed to drop a few pounds before my fingers were skinny enough.  They are still quite a bit tighter than normal

  • Have to lost all of your pregnancy weight? I wouldn't stress about sizing them until you are at the point where you were at when they stopped fitting. I've lost about half and mine fits again (snugly though)
  • Took me about 2 months after the first baby, and (I'm ashamed to admit this) but about 9 months after the second, and they are just now starting to fit after the third.

Brunch seems like it needs "Dude" in front of it... at least to do it the way I like to - informal, boozy, and usually with at least one baby in tow.   :)

    Dude - we totally should.

  • My OB said that, if at 6 months pp they're not fitting, they're not ever going to fit again.  I was barely able to squeeze them on when Emma was 9 months...  just in time to get pregnant and bloated again.  I'll give myself 6 months after the next babe comes and then have to get them resized, I'm sure!  Give yourself a little more time!  Your blood volume is still decreasing and you probably still have some fluid retention, even if you don't feel like you do.
