Gah. I just processed my first app from start to finish for our rescue.
M applied for a dog. I posted about this last week, BTW. Listed her mom and sister as references. I spoke to Mom, and she did not think that M would be a good dog owner. Asked me not to tell M. M's vet said her cats needed their annual physicals and shots. I e-mailed M and told her what the vet said (and mentioned nothing at all about her mom).
I got an e-mail yesterday from M telling me she'd been informed that her family didn't support her decision to adopt a greyhound, and that she was disappointed to withdraw her app.
I just got a voicemail from her sister today. I called her twice and she'd called me back twice (for a reference), but we'd never synced up, so we'd never spoken. Her voicemail today told me that I had caused a rift in her family. That they thought that what Mom had said would be kept in confidence. The voicemail ended with, "thanks for nothing. Go to hell."
I was in doubt before, but I'm thinking I dodged a bullet here.
For the record...I never said anything. To anyone. I don't know how M found out, but it wasn't from me or anyone with our rescue. Good Lord.
Re: "Go to hell!"
just thank your lucky stars that you didn't place a dog into the middle of their family chaos. It probably wouldn't have ended well.
Also, fwiw, my mom didn't think i should get a dog when i got cosmo in 2005, and she DEFINITELY didn't think we should get ANOTHER dog when we got Doby and still tells me DAILY that i "DON'T NEED A 3 RD DOG" EVER.
But it really has more to do with her opinion on having multiple large dogs in one house, and the costs associated with it, not her opinion of my ability to care for them.
You just reminded me that some stupidass social worker left a very long and detailed message about a patient and their care on my (wrong number) answering machine last night and that I forgot to take the number down and let them know that they called the wrong person.
I could not believe all the stuff that she just rattled off to an answering machine. So much for privacy.
And that is so weird that they're blaming you.
Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
The same thing happened to me the other day! Some doctor's office called and left a message with all kinds of medical info for a complete stranger.
Sorry, didn't mean to get off track. Obviously that family has issues.
