Job Inquiry

Is there a tactful way to ask a company if they ever hire in my area, without actually asking for a job?

This is going to sound way out there, but the small company that I work for is part of a professional organization. Jobs in my area are few and far between and there is a huge regional difference (to really "move up" I'd have to move to an urban area).

I guess what I would want to ask our area rep for the professional organization is if they ever hire employees away from their home office. Not really a "hire me right now" thing, but just as a "goal setting for the future thing." Basically, if I can't move up in this area, I need to just get out of it.

Ugh, I hope that made sense!

Re: Job Inquiry

  • I don't think there's anything wrong with the way you presented it here.  A simple, "Does Professional Organisation ever hire employees that live away from their main location?"  You never know - it could open up a great conversation for you and the rep.  It won't hurt to ask.

  • Agree.  I think it shows initiative and that you plan to stay with the company for a while.  I think most employers find that to be desirable trait.
