My baby hates to eat!

She has always been a fussy eater, so this is nothing new, but I feel like it's getting worse.  I BF and for the past few days she has been nursing for a few minutes (basically waits for my let down, takes a few sips) and then she pushes away and freaks out if I try to get her to re-latch.  I know babies get more efficient as they get older, but she is not coming close to emptying my breasts.  We have 3 nursing sessions during the day and usually one during the night.  When I'm at work she gets a bottle of BM and takes anywhere from 1- 3.5 oz from a 4 oz. bottle.

Same thing with eating her solids.  She freaks out as soon as we put the bib on her and whines/cries the entire time we feed her.  She gets 3 solid meals a day.

I'm beyond frustrated.  She's having dirty diapers and is otherwise thriving, but I just want a peaceful and stress-free meal.  I know she will eat when she's hungry but who knows when that will be.

This turned into a long vent.  Can anyone sympathize?  I feel like everyone else complains that their baby never stops eating but it's just as hard when they don't want to eat at all!

  • Yup.  My son is older - he is a little over 2, but has never been a good eater.  Want to know what he had for breakfast today?  Chocolate covered raisans.  Thats what he wanted and he didn't even eat all of them.  It sucks when they don't eat.  He is tiny - only 22 lbs, but the dr. isn't worried so I try not.
Where in world would you like me to ship you? image My boys - I am so screwed in about 7 years. What's the difference between a hockey mom and a pitbull? LIPSTICK !
  • This has been the story of my sons life since I can remember.  he's 2.5 now and worse than its ever been...  He's in the 5% for height & weight and he's pretty much been there since the beginning.  He's still on the chart so that's a good thing.  It's very frustrating & I've even cried about it.  Although most meals end up in the garbage, I always keep trying.  Hang in there, hopefully it will get better for you.
  • Thanks for the support, ladies.  I'm glad I'm not alone.  DD is 8 months and about 17 lbs (was 19% at her 6 mo. checkup) so she's not too big and not too small.  The thing that I'm hung up on is the breastfeeding but I may have to get over it.  I have a descent stash in the freezer and I think I can still pump enough to get to a year, but who knows.  I even pumped this morning and tried giving her a bottle myself (something I have never done) b/c she hadn't eaten since 6:30 last night but she refused it.  I think I can...I think I can...

  • If your ped isn't concerned don't be :)

Chase was nursing 5-7 times a day and eating 3 meals until about a month ago when it seemed like he started going on a hunger strike.  He wouldn't eat any solids yesterday save for the sweet potato chips that I was eating lol

I'm blaming those top teeth which look like they're coming in but, I've been blaming those teeth for months now for everything.

It's really hard when they're not consistent but, from this point on you kinda just have to go with the flow (within reason).
