  • Thanks for sharing! She's right... from what I hear, the middle schools and high schools are a disaster. 38-45 kids in a class is not uncommon.  So far, elementary isn't quite as bad but you still hear about kindergarten and 1st grade classes with 32 or 33 kids, which I think is crazy. It was very brave of her to stand up at that school board meeting. From what I hear from teachers who were there, the meeting was craaaazy. It's really too bad. The union, board, and superintendent have a long history of having a great relationship, and now that has completely crumbled.

There's also a group of high school students who have come together to support teachers. We've been told that if we have anything to do with these groups, we'll probably be fired.

Good for her!  The whole situation in this country is a mess and it is so disheartening.  Smaller class sizes aren't just beneficial in elementary, they are beneficial to any student.  I have 30 kids in my reading class and it is so frustrating for me and the children because there is no way for me to teach what I need to and get around to work with / read with each of them individually.  These kids who are coming together to speak out on the issue are learning so much, I hope more will join them to make a difference.
